The growing number of countries wishing to participate in the BRICS summit indicates a loss of trust in the West, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media Alexey Pushkov wrote on Telegram.

“When Westerners are outraged that the leaders of more than 30 countries of the non-Western world will attend the BRICS summit in Russia despite pressure from the West, one of the important reasons is the lack of trust in the West,” said Alexey Pushkov.

Mr. Pushkov noted that there are very few ideals left of Western countries and they have been replaced by completely different principles.
“Western ‘ideals’, as the last quarter of the 21st century has shown, have, if they existed, already appeared. And at the heart of it are cynical geopolitical calculations designed to ensure the inviolability of Western hegemony,” Mr. Pushkov concluded.

The BRICS summit will be held in Kazan from October 22 to 24, 2024. 32 countries have confirmed their participation in the event, 24 of which will be represented by heads of state.

BRICS was established in 2009 - an international organization including member countries such as Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The organization was founded from BRIC, which is the first letter in the English names of 4 countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China, then admitted South Africa in 2010. Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates officially joined this organization from January 1, 2024.
BRICS countries account for 30% of the world's area and 45% of its population.
