Overview of the working session

During the struggles for national liberation and defense of the Fatherland, Nghe An province was one of the localities with the largest number of people infected with Agent Orange, nearly 30,000 people. In recent years, implementing Conclusion Notice No. 292 of the Politburo, the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee promptly issued documents directing organizations in the political system to implement policies to care for and help victims of chemical poisoning. All levels and sectors have coordinated to resolve policies for people infected with Agent Orange.

Comrade Phan Dinh Trac spoke at the meeting.

Every year, the movement to support the Day for Agent Orange victims has been launched widely and evenly from the province to the grassroots level, partly sharing and solving difficulties for the subjects, helping them to rise up and integrate into the community. The Association of Agent Orange Victims in 20 districts, cities, towns and 312/481 wards, communes and towns have been established, with 12,000 members, having many meaningful activities, encouraging each other to live a better life.

The work of helping Agent Orange victims has gradually been socialized. Front organizations and unions have integrated the concern and care for Agent Orange victims into many specific movements and activities such as building a "Fund for the poor", repairing houses, supporting education for children of victims' families... However, there are still many Agent Orange victims who have not enjoyed the regimes and policies of the Party and the State. This is a difficulty of Nghe An province.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange, spoke at the meeting.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Comrade Phan Dinh Trac - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee requested the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin to study the situation at the grassroots level, continue to advise and propose the Government to soon issue a new Decree to replace Decree 54 on the regime for people with meritorious services that has expired. At the same time, he requested the Central Committee of the Association to pay attention to creating conditions for the Nghe An Province Association of Victims of Agent Orange to exchange and learn experiences to strengthen and develop the organization, and have the opportunity to access domestic and foreign resources according to the provisions of law to develop a support fund for the victims./.
