Olympic gold medalist awarded nearly 1 billion VND
This is the first time Vietnamese athletes participating in the Olympics have been offered such a large bonus.
The General Department of Sports and Physical Training has just announced that two major sponsors have announced unprecedented bonuses for athletes of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation participating in the 2012 London Olympics. Accordingly, the amount of money that an athlete winning an Olympic gold medal can receive is nearly 1 billion VND.
Specifically, Petrosetco General Services Joint Stock Corporation offers a reward of 500 million VND for each Olympic gold medal, while Dong Luc Sports Group also offers a reward of 250 million VND for athletes who win gold medals at this major event.
In addition to the reward for the gold medal, the General Petroleum Services Corporation also offered a reward of 300 million VND for the silver medal and 200 million VND for the bronze medal. In addition to sponsoring all the uniforms for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, Dong Luc also offered a reward of 150 million VND for each silver medal and 100 million VND for each bronze medal at the London Olympics.
Thus, an athlete who wins an Olympic gold medal, in addition to the bonus of 160 million VND according to the regime, also has the opportunity to receive at least 750 million VND from the two sponsors as mentioned above. For the two taekwondo athletes Le Huynh Chau and Chu Hoang Dieu Linh, the bonus can be up to 2 billion VND because they are also awarded 50,000 USD (equivalent to more than 1 billion VND) by CJ Group (Korea) for the Olympic gold medal.
