Speaking at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier, Mr. Wray pledged to work independently. He said: “If I am honored to be the leader of the FBI, I will never allow anything to govern the operation of this agency other than the truth, the law and justice.”

Mr. Wray is a 50-year-old lawyer who served as Assistant Attorney General of the United States under former President George W. Bush. On July 20, the US Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the nomination of Mr. Christopher Wray as the new FBI Director.

Previously, former FBI Director James Comey was fired by President Donald Trump, for what Mr. Comey said was to obstruct the investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election./.
