Neil Armstrong – the first man to set foot on the Moon on July 21, 1969 – passed away on August 25, 2012 (at the age of 82) after complications from heart surgery.
A rifle was mounted on the ship to be fired during the burial ceremony. Neil Armstrong's wife, Carol Armstrong, and a band of brass band members were present at the ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were Mr. Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin – Neil Armstrong's colleagues on the Apollo 11 flight – the final leg in the long journey of human aspiration to conquer the Moon.
A day earlier, NASA held a memorial service for him in the capital.
Armstrong became world famous for his statement when he set foot on the Moon: “That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
