(Baonghean.vn) -In the 2012 Spring crop, the whole province produced more than 85,000 hectares of rice (including 65,000 hectares of hybrid rice and more than 20,000 hectares of pure rice), 15,000 hectares of corn, 23,000 hectares of peanuts, 8,000 hectares of various vegetables and 2,000 hectares of beans. To effectively implement the 2012 Spring crop, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has established inspection teams to inspect the production and trading of plant varieties and fertilizer production in the province.
Through inspection, most of the seed and fertilizer suppliers strictly implemented the regulations. Currently, in districts, cities and towns, farmers are urgently sowing seedlings including Xi23, Ac5, IR 1820, BT - E1 varieties. According to the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, localities have basically implemented well the solutions proposed by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, such as: Seed structure, crop season, technical solutions... However, through inspection, it was found that there are still some localities where farmers sow seedlings before the prescribed season and use low-yield varieties, susceptible to pests and diseases and still subjectively use direct sowing methods.
The special concern in the Spring crop is production during the period of complicated weather, so for all crops, the authorities and farmers must closely monitor the weather to plant the Spring crop within the time frame prescribed by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Currently, the weather is quite cold and is forecast to be complicated, the beginning of Spring comes after Lunar New Year (January 13 of the Lunar calendar), and the second lunar month of April, so the rice and peanut planting season is after Lunar New Year. Therefore, on days when the temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius, farmers should not plant rice or sow peanuts. It is necessary to treat 100% of rice seeds, cover 100% of the 2012 Spring crop seedlings with plastic. For the seedlings that have been sown but have not been covered with plastic, which does not meet the requirements for cold resistance, it is necessary to supplement it promptly.
Ms. Ha Thi Huong - Vice Chairman of Dien Chau District People's Committee said: "In the 2012 Spring crop, the district produced more than 9,000 hectares of rice, 700 hectares of corn and 3,200 hectares of peanuts. To successfully implement the Spring crop, the district has established a Steering Committee from the district down to the grassroots level. The staff in the Steering Committee regularly stay in the fields to directly direct production, and at the same time remove difficulties and obstacles in the production process. To encourage farmers to quickly increase the area covered with nylon, in addition to the support policy of the province, Dien Chau district supports an additional 30% of the price of nylon. Currently in Dien Chau, farmers have planted the first rice seedlings and will do it on a large scale on January 15. Due to the current cold weather, the district directs farmers to strictly follow the crop time frame of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development".
A current concern is the cold protection for livestock and poultry in the area. Experience from the long cold spells has greatly affected the livestock situation of the people. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed localities to prepare enough roughage and green food such as straw, stubble, banana leaves combined with concentrated food... to improve the health and cold resistance of livestock. People are encouraged to repair barns and farms to avoid drafts, not to let livestock roam freely... and on cold days when the temperature drops below 16 degrees Celsius, do not use buffaloes or cows to plow. Along with strengthening the fight against hunger and cold for livestock, the work of preventing livestock and poultry diseases has also been strengthened.
