Pity the illusionists!
(Baonghean) -As people who directly witnessed the first-instance public trial of the criminal case against 14 defendants for the crime of "activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government" under Clause 1 and Clause 2, Article 79 - Penal Code of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam at the People's Court of Nghe An province on January 8, we truly feel sorry for those who have ruined their future because of trivial "illusions".
Inheriting the achievements of many generations who sacrificed for the revolutionary cause, most of the defendants were born and grew up when the country was peaceful and stable, and the State created favorable conditions for studying, living and working. Among the 14 defendants prosecuted at the trial yesterday and today, 9/14 defendants have university and college degrees, including defendants who were good teachers, defendants who were athletes who received many awards and medals... have legal awareness and understanding of society. They should have used the knowledge they learned to serve the country and the people. However, due to their refusal to cultivate themselves, they misunderstood the so-called "freedom", disguised as "freedom and democracy", and had illusions about prosperous prospects; they did not recognize the plot of the enemy, the reactionary exiled organizations such as Viet Tan, to lure people to sell their conscience, betray the Fatherland and the people.
More painfully, many defendants have parents and relatives who were veterans who participated in the resistance war, or were martyrs. They should have been the ones to continue the tradition of their family, homeland, and clan, but because of chasing after immediate and trivial material benefits, they turned their backs on the Fatherland, joined hands with the enemy who had pointed guns at their fathers' generation, and participated in activities to overthrow the people's government - a government that came from the people and served the people. And it was also painful to witness a family with all 3 mothers and children being prosecuted for participating in the reactionary organization Viet Tan, opposing the state. It was reprehensible and infuriating that the mother, who was a teacher with many achievements, ruined her children's future by dragging them into a path of crime. In reality, they are just "cards" that discontented, reactionary, and political opportunists use to their illusion of eliminating the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, overthrowing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, destroying the achievements of the revolution, and destroying the people's government that generations of Vietnamese people have shed so much blood and intelligence to win.
Those who betray the interests of the people and the country must receive severe sentences for their illegal acts! We need to be strict with illegal acts to protect and build an increasingly strong people's government. However, the tradition and morality of our nation, the superior nature of the Vietnamese socialist regime is also very lenient towards those who have gone astray, know how to turn back, recognize their mistakes and correct them. That is also an opportunity for the defendants to have the conditions to reform and educate themselves to become useful citizens for their families and the community.
