Russian Su-33 fighter crashes while landing on aircraft carrier
A Russian Navy Su-33 Flanker fighter crashed while landing on the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov.
The Aviationist magazine on December 5 quoted military sources as saying that a Russian Navy Su-33 Flanker crashed two days ago while conducting military operations from the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.
The plane reportedly crashed in good weather conditions (visibility above 10 km). The incident occurred when the Su-33 Flanker attempted to land on the aircraft carrier but the arresting cables apparently broke, causing the plane to slide off the deck and into the sea.
Luckily, the pilot managed to escape and was later found and saved by a Russian Navy rescue helicopter.

Nearly three weeks ago, a Russian Navy MiG-29K crashed while attempting to land on the Admiral Kuznetsov after a mission in Syria. The arresting gear on the Admiral Kuznetsov had not been repaired, so the plane had to circle in the air until it ran out of fuel. The pilot of the MiG-29K was lucky to escape death.
The Admiral Kuznetsov is the only aircraft carrier in service with the Russian Navy to date. Moscow has sent the aircraft carrier to Syria for its first combat mission since its launch.

Regarding this aircraft carrier, Russian Navy Commander, Admiral Vladimir Korolyov, revealed to Rossiya 24 channel on December 5 that 8 NATO ships recently followed Admiral Kuznetsov when it passed through British territorial waters.
However, Mr. Korolyov added, the NATO ship group did not violate international law.
The Admiral Kuznetsov, carrying Su-33 and MiG-29K fighter jets, was accompanied by three warships and several support vessels and was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in mid-October. The flotilla carried out several strikes on terrorist targets in Syria's Idlib and Homs provinces, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
