While playing in the third set, Tien Minh proactively asked to retire from Verma.Indian opponent stands424th in the world. Previously, the two players each won a set in the match on the evening of July 19.

Despite his poor physical condition, Tien Minh still went out to play for the fans.

Tien Minh recently skipped several international tournaments to focus on the Olympics. This Vietnam Open is considered his last chance to test his form and preparation for the big stage. Ho Chi Minh City fans also came to Phan Dinh Phung Stadium in large numbers to witness the team's hope demonstrate their talent.

"I hope the fans understand my situation. I shouldn't have come to the stadium, but I tried my best to come here and play for the audience. But honestly, my health right now doesn't allow me to play anymore," Tien Minh added.

However, the number one Vietnamese tennis player was also surprised by his performance in the first two sets: "I didn't think that with my health being sick for the past two days, I could still play the first set so well." In this set, he easily won his opponent 21/6.

The time to compete in the 2016 Olympics is approaching, so the 33-year-old tennis player is not taking any chances and losing the opportunity to play in Brazil. "If I play any longer, I will be very tired and if I get injured, I will not be able to compete in the Olympics. Therefore, I need to take care of my health. In about two weeks, I will be completely healthy to compete in the Olympics."

However, he sadly left the field early because his health did not allow it.

Vietnam's number one tennis player also added that he is considering retiring from his career: "I had planned to retire after the Olympics. But in the past few months, I have reconsidered because I still have a contract with a sponsor until the end of 2017. Moreover, I am still very passionate and want to compete. Maybe, I will compete for a few more years, but only for fun, not focusing on achievements or rankings anymore."

After Tien Minh left the Vietnam Open today, the host's hopes are all on female tennis player Vu Thi Trang. Tien Minh's girlfriend will compete in the women's singles tomorrow. This is also the tournament for Trang to prepare for the 2016 Olympics.
