Tien Minh easily entered the quarterfinals of the Vietnam Open.
It only took Tien Minh 30 minutes of competition to get a ticket to the quarter-finals of the 2014 Vietnam Open Badminton Tournament.
After other players were eliminated one after another, Nguyen Tien Minh is the only remaining hope for Vietnamese badminton in the men's singles at the 2014 Vietnam Open.
That, combined with his recent 7-rank increase to world No. 23, gives Tien Minh more determination in the third round match with opponent Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub, ranked 185th in the world.
Set 1 started with both sides being evenly matched before Tien Minh broke through in the middle of the set and defeated his opponent 21-10. In set 2, the scenario did not change and Tien Minh easily won 21-14, thereby ending the match with a 2-0 victory after 30 minutes of competition.
With this victory, Tien Minh has the right to enter the quarterfinals to meet Hong Kong player Ka Long Ng (ranked 52nd in the world). Tien Minh defeated Ka Long Ng in their only meeting in 2012.

Tien Minh is still going straight in the familiar tournament at home. |
Due to the collapse of Phan Dinh Phung gymnasium, while Tien Minh had reached the quarterfinals, Vu Thi Trang had just started her first match in the women's singles against Susanto Yulia Yosephin (ranked 199th in the world).
Facing an opponent who was much lower in ranking, Vu Thi Trang unexpectedly lost the first set 17-21. It was not until the next two sets that the Bac Giang player regained her composure and won 21-15, 21-16 to secure a ticket to the second round. Vu Thi Trang's opponent in the second round is Malaysian seed number 6 Li Lian Yang (ranked 69th in the world).
After winning the singles, Vu Thi Trang participated in the women's doubles with Nguyen Thi Sen. The pair's opponents in the first round were the Indonesian pair Meiliana Jauhari/Aprilsasi Putri Lejarsar Variella. After more than half an hour of competition, the Vietnamese pair Trang/Sen won (22-20, 23-21) to secure a ticket to the second round.
Apart from the above victories of Tien Minh, Nguyen Thi Sen and Vu Thi Trang, the remaining Vietnamese tennis players all failed today and stopped early at the 2014 Vietnam Open tournament./.
