Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka once defeated Tien Minh at the 2013 SEA Games. In the third set in Myanmar two years ago, Vietnam's number one tennis player led 20-16 and needed only one more point to qualify for the final. However, Tien Minh let his opponent score six points in a row, coming back to win 22-20.

In the reunion at Vietnam Open 2014, Tien Minh once again had to accept defeat against Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka when he continued to lose in the semi-finals.

After the Malaysia Super Series, Tien Minh will travel to Singapore to participate in the second consecutive Super Series tournament taking place from April 7. Next, on April 21, he and his teammates from the Vietnamese badminton team will go to Wuhan (China) to compete in the 2015 Asian Badminton Championship. These are tournaments that gather the world's top players, and are an opportunity for Tien Minh to prepare for the 2015 SEA Games, taking place next June in Singapore.
