Pioneering in implementing the Net Zero 2050 commitment, Vinamilk spends 15 billion planting trees to neutralize carbon
(Baonghean.vn) - On November 25, in Hanoi, Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) and the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper signed a memorandum of understanding on implementing tree planting activities to neutralize carbon towards Net Zero, which will be officially implemented from 2023.
This is also one of the activities responding to Vietnam's message at COP 27 held in Egypt recently, which is "Commitment goes hand in hand with Action" in implementing climate goals.
The Memorandum of Understanding on tree planting activities to neutralize carbon towards Net Zero, with a total value of VND 15 billion, was exchanged by the parties under the witness of Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh.
It is known that this is also a project within the framework ofVinamilk's Action Plan towards Net Zero 2050to join hands to realize the goal of bringing net emissions to "0" that Vietnam committed to at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP 26) as well as respond to the message "Commitment goes hand in hand with action" emphasized by Vietnam at COP 27 held in Egypt recently.

From 2012 to 2020, Vinamilk and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment have coordinated to implement the 1 Million Trees for Vietnam Fund at 56 locations in 20 provinces and cities with a total value of 12.5 billion VND. This program is a typical example of efforts and actions for the environment, for life and for the future. Continuing this green journey, in 2022, Vinamilk will restart tree planting activities with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with the main goal of neutralizing greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the common goal of "Net Zero".

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh highly appreciated the cooperative tree planting activities between Vinamilk and the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper as well as the detailed goals and plans identified in the Memorandum of Understanding with main contents such as increasing the coverage of trees and forests nationwide, contributing to reducing the impact of climate change, absorbing CO2.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the parties need to ensure coordination of high-growth crops, the number of trees planted each year for each region and locality, and support livelihood creation for people; raise public awareness in resource management, environmental protection, and climate change response.
With the goal of planting trees to neutralize carbon, aiming for Net Zero, Vinamilk, the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper and units under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will coordinate with localities to research, survey and consult with experts on climate change to develop effective and suitable tree planting and care plans. These efforts aim to ensure that the target of green area is maintained, expanded and absorbs CO2increasingly, bringing many other benefits to the community, environment, livelihoods as well as spreading love of nature and forming awareness and responsibility for environmental protection in the community.
Mr. Hoang Manh Ha - Editor-in-Chief of the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper shared: "The tree planting activity to neutralize carbon, aiming for Net Zero between the Natural Resources and Environment Newspaper and Vinamilk, is managed and monitored systematically, methodically and professionally from the survey stage, pre-feasibility assessment to the stage of making detailed planting plans, developing tree care and protection plans, making analysis reports and measuring data on CO2 emissions.2 absorbed, greenhouse gas inventory…”.

Recently, Vinamilk is also the first Vietnamese dairy company to participate in the global initiative of the dairy industry on Net Zero called Pathways to Dairy Net Zero. This is a project established by major organizations of the world dairy industry such as the International Dairy Federation (IDF), the Dairy Sustainable Development Framework (DSF), the Global Dairy Platform... with the goal of minimizing the industry's impacts on the environment and climate and promoting sustainable development.
To date, 140 organizations and businesses worldwide have joined this initiative. Project members currently account for more than 40% of global milk production.

Mr. Le Hoang Minh - Vinamilk's Production Executive Director added: "Tree planting is one of many action programs implemented by Vinamilk to neutralize emissions, moving towards the Net Zero goal by 2050. Specifically, Vinamilk is making efforts to green both livestock and production activities through the application of science and technology, circular economic thinking, green energy conversion, renewable energy to reduce carbon footprint. At the same time, actively planting trees to increase the ability to absorb CO2, improve climate issues".

The activity will officially begin in 2023, with field surveys to conduct effective tree planting and afforestation, bringing overall benefits to the environment and community; aiming to build typical "green areas" on the path to the big goal: Net Zero./.
