Having just imported nearly 1,000 24k gold-plated tiger-shaped red envelopes from Taiwan, Ms. Oanh in Tan Binh (Ho Chi Minh City) said she is selling them for 90,000 VND for a pack of 3.
"After only 4 days of import, customers have already ordered 30% of the goods. 2022 is the year of the tiger, products associated with this animal symbolize luck, so they are chosen more than ever even though the price is 30 times higher than normal products," said Ms. Oanh.

Also imported in quantity of nearly 1,00024k gold plated tiger red envelope, Mr. Chinh, the owner of a shop on Nguyen Huy Tu Street (District 1) said that he got this line of red envelopes from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Of which, the Hong Kong goods are twice as expensive as the Taiwanese ones, up to 99,000 VND per envelope. This is also the most expensive gold-plated tiger line currently.
"This type is more expensive than similar products imported from other countries because the tiger image is made of metal instead of plastic and is plated with sophisticated 24k gold. They are selling very well in the store," said Mr. Chinh.
In addition, gold-plated $2 bills with tiger images are also ordered by many customers. This type costs 150,000 VND per bill, 3 times higher than the $2 bills circulating on the market. "Gold-plated $2 bills with tiger images are divided into two types: beautiful serial numbers and serial numbers based on year of birth. Of which, bills with beautiful serial numbers can cost up to 300,000 VND per bill," Mr. Chinh informed.

Explaining why these items are dozens of times more expensive than regular items,Mr. Chinh said that these are products produced in limited quantities and only once a year. A typical example is the gold-plated $2 bill imported from the US.
According to him, this item was issued by the US once to serve the needs of Asian people for Lunar New Year 2022 and has no circulation value. They have feng shui meaning, symbolizing special luck in each year, so they are sold at a high value.
