Midfielder Hoang Duc: 'Coach Kim Sang-sik wants the Vietnamese team to show a diverse playing style'

On the afternoon of June 3, the Vietnamese team entered its second training session to prepare for two matches against the Philippines and Iraq.

In a media interview before the training session, midfielder Hoang Duc admitted that the players were not in good physical condition when they joined the Vietnam national team this time because the V-League 2023/2024 took place with a tight schedule in May. However, the Vietnam team was very excited to have a new coach, looking forward to the two matches against the Philippines and Iraq with high confidence.

"The players need time to recover after playing in the V-League. Due to the short preparation time, we practiced tactics to apply for the upcoming matches. The whole team was a bit tired, but we tried to overcome it," said Hoang Duc.

Regarding the meeting with the Philippines on June 6, the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball said that he and his teammates have the best preparation, watching video together to apply tactics for training sessions.

"We don't stick to a fixed formation, there can be changes in the playing style on the field, try to adapt the best towards the match against the Philippines, and give the best to the fans. It's been a long time since the Vietnamese team won, this is also the debut of coach Kim Sang Sik, so we try to win at home.

Regarding himself, Hoang Duc affirmed: "When I am called up to the national team, I always try to achieve 100% and if I have the opportunity to play, I will show my best. For the players, being on the field is very important. If I have to sit on the bench, I need to try harder to prove myself to the coach. Coach Kim Sang Sik is very friendly, creating laughter to help create a comfortable atmosphere. The players are very happy on the field and looking forward to their performance."
