(Baonghean.vn) -For many years now, in Chau Thon commune (Que Phong district, Nghe An), at exactly 7pm, the "school bell" rings simultaneously in 13 hamlets, alerting children that it is time to study.

The gong to encourage learning has been deployed in 13 villages in Chau Thon commune. Every night, the village chiefs (or party cell secretaries) strike the gong at exactly 7pm to signal the children to sit down and study.

After the school bell, Vi Thi Hoai and her friends sat down seriously at their desks.

Mr. Lo Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Chau Thon Commune, said: After several years of implementing the Learning Encouragement Bell, children have a much better awareness of studying than before. Adults are also aware of reminding children to study, not to turn on the TV too loud during their study time. Thanks to that, the academic performance of children in the commune has improved significantly, the rate of children with good grades increases every year. Therefore, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the commune strongly support this movement.

Thanks to the "Sound of the gong to encourage learning", for the first time Chau Thon has a student who won the provincial excellent student award. That is Vi Thi Hoai, grade 9, Chau Thon Ethnic Boarding Secondary School. Hoai's family is in Co Ngu village, her mother had to go to the South to earn a living for the family, her father stayed home to take care of the children and work on the fields. Despite the difficult life, Hoai is very studious, from grade 1 to grade 9 she was an advanced student. Recently, she won the consolation prize in Geography in the provincial excellent student competition, and was awarded the title "Future Young Leader" by the District Youth Union. Vi Thi Hoai confided: "The sound of the gong to encourage learning has created in me the habit of studying seriously. I always sit at my desk on time to study, I have to study hard to make my parents happy, and strive to become a doctor to treat people in my village. At school, Vi Thi Hoai is an exemplary, dynamic team leader, and a deputy class leader who is loved by her friends.

Mr. Lo Minh Duc, Principal of Chau Thon Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, said: The school has 100 students in the dormitory, 46 Mong students, 17 Kho Mu students, the rest are Thai students... They all seriously follow the "Treating the Study Bell" so their academic performance is very good. In the villages, the school organizes surprise field inspections every month to ensure the seriousness and continuity of the "Treating the Study Bell".

The movement of the school bell in Chau Thon has truly created a learning atmosphere in 13 hamlets and villages, making Chau Thon one of the leading units in promoting learning in Que Phong district.
