Spring of love

In the New Year, everyone wants to gather and reunite. But at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, before the New Year's Eve, there are still many fathers, mothers and children who are enduring pain, clinging to the hospital bed to welcome the New Year. In the hospital, the drip of IV fluids counts the anxious time, reflecting the tired, sleepless eyes of the fathers and mothers. Outside, the spring rain is drizzling...

Tu Tam Club gives gifts to patients at Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital.

Although it is sad, it is certain that in the middle of Spring, the patients and their families are not alone or sad. During Spring in the hospital, there are many kind-hearted people who come to share their feelings with them. The volunteers of Tu Tam Club are one of that group. In order to encourage the parents and children who are unfortunate enough to stay at the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital on New Year's Eve, 30 volunteers came to distribute candy, toys and lucky money to the children. Even though it is just a balloon, a package of cake, a box of milk, a small candy, it contains and wraps so much love.

Mr. Nguyen Ha Long, a club member, said: “These gifts were donated by club members from domestic and foreign benefactors as well as from their own contributions. With the amount of over 27 million VND raised, we gave 10 special gifts to 10 seriously ill children in difficult circumstances, each gift worth 1 million VND, the remaining amount was used to buy gifts, as well as organize free porridge for all children in the hospital on the first, second and third days of Tet when the shops are closed. We gave the gifts with the desire to share something with the children, hope that they will have a meaningful spring, encourage them to be more determined and try harder”. Tu Tam Club is one of the volunteer groups operating very effectively in Nghe An province. Volunteers often come to help and give gifts to people in remote areas with difficult circumstances. To welcome the new spring, Tu Tam Club organized the program "Spring of Love", distributing more than 1,000 free meals to patients being treated at the Oncology Hospital and on the fourth day, cooked rice, gave gifts, and encouraged mental patients being treated at the Social Protection Center in Do Luong district.

In the new spring moment, besides Tu Tam Club, there are many organizations and individuals who come to share the pain with the children and their families. They are journalist Quang Long, Tien Phong Newspaper, colleagues and young people from Vinh Blood Bank Club, Traffic Construction Corporation 4... who went to the hospital beds to give 50 gifts to the children being treated at the hospital.

Send life

On New Year's Eve at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, the patient's family is not alone. There are many doctors and nurses who are still worried, on duty, and using all their spirit, responsibility, and ability to treat the patient. Like Dr. Pham Dinh Toan and his wife, for the sake of the patient's health, they have celebrated New Year's Eve at the hospital for the past 3 years.

New Year's Eve is coming. At exactly 11pm, the Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital received a serious emergency case. It was a woman giving birth to her third child, suffering from postpartum hemorrhage, the uterus could not contract, and severe blood loss. Reserved blood could not be used in this case because the patient had a blood clotting disorder. To save the patient, live blood was needed from a direct donor. Among the 30 family members present, no one had the same blood type A as the patient... Faced with this situation, the hospital quickly notified all medical staff on duty and those resting at home to come and donate blood to save the patient.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, 33 years old, an employee of the Technical Supplies Department of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, living in Hung Loc commune, Vinh city, said: I received a phone call at 11:15 pm, while my family was preparing to celebrate New Year's Eve. When I heard that a patient needed my blood, I got in the car and went without thinking. Five minutes later, I ran to the lab to donate blood. When I arrived, I saw that other colleagues had also donated blood. At 11:45 pm, I got home just in time to perform the New Year's Eve ceremony.

Saving a pregnant woman who had a stroke on New Year's Eve, 5 doctors, nurses, and hospital staff donated 5 units of blood. And on the morning of the first day of Tet, 3 more people continued to volunteer to donate their blood to the patient. Mr. Truong Xuan Vinh, a nurse at the Emergency Resuscitation Department, although on duty on the first morning of the year, when he heard that the patient needed blood, he immediately came to donate blood. Mr. Vinh shared: Medical staff help patients not only with intelligence and enthusiasm but also with all their heart.

The mobilization of “life blood” to promptly rescue patients has shown the careful preparation of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. Doctor Phan Dinh Toan, Secretary of the hospital’s Youth Union, added: “The movement of doctors and nurses donating blood to save patients at the hospital has been going on for decades. However, since the hospital was upgraded and received the obstetrics department, the need for blood has increased. In this situation, the hospital has promoted the blood donation movement to serve patients among the Youth Union members. The movement has been enthusiastically responded to by doctors and nurses. In 2014, the hospital’s doctors and nurses donated over 100 units of blood…”.

Going through the Tet holidays, feeling the sharing of life, we have more confidence in the new spring, in a brighter tomorrow.
