According to the first instance verdict, in 2014, Mai and Duong lived together as husband and wife in Quoc Oai district. Around the beginning of September 2017, both acted as brokers for two female employees to sell sex online.
To attract customers, Duong hired a man to take nude photos of two employees and post them on the forum along with his phone number. The price was 300,000 VND for a "quickie".
When customers contacted him, Duong sent staff to a hotel in Nam Tu Liem district to serve them. The prostitutes had to share 50% of the money they received with Duong and Mai. After that, the "pimp" told the two girls to go to Nam Long hotel (Nam Tu Liem district) to stay and sell sex.
In the late afternoon of November 2017, when a customer called, Duong dispatched a staff member to serve him. When two couples were buying and selling sex, the police caught them red-handed.
According to the first instance verdict, from November 21 to November 24, 2017, Duong and Mai brokered sex for two employees dozens of times. The couple earned 4.2 million VND from the brokerage.
At the first instance verdict on June 12, the People's Court of Nam Tu Liem District sentenced Duong and Mai to 48 and 42 months in prison, respectively.
At the appeal hearing, Duong claimed that he had helped the police catch gamblers, while Mai said that she had just given birth and wanted the panel of judges to consider her case. Accepting the appeal, the appeal court reduced the sentences for each defendant by 6 months to 42 months and 36 months, respectively.
