Arabic-language television channel Aljazeera published a detailed plan drawn up by the military coup forces in Türkiye on the night of July 17.

Accordingly, the initial coup plan was expected to begin at 3 a.m. on July 16 with the goal of seizing all seats of power in the Turkish government, including orders to capture or kill President Erdogan.

However, the plan suddenly changed and an order was given to carry out the coup earlier in the two largest cities of the country, the capital Ankara and Istanbul, to seize key government buildings, key bridges, the General Staff and airports.

According to the coup plan published by Aljazeera, a group of armed helicopters with dozens of soldiers were sent to the area where President Erdogan was vacationing in Marmaris, in the south of the country, with orders to capture or kill Mr. Erdogan. However, President Erdogan left the hotel in Marmaris about 40 minutes before the coup soldiers arrived.

In addition, Aljazeera also said that there was a detailed list of 80 military generals participating in the coup with specific tasks and power roles. Also participating in the plan to overthrow the Government were police and judiciary officials. Meanwhile, another document indicated that the number of coup forces was up to 20,000 people.

The military coup in Türkiye broke out at around 7:30 p.m. on July 15, local time. The coup group arrested the Turkish military chief of staff, General Hulusi Akar; blockaded the vital bridge on the Bosphorus Strait connecting the two Asian and European territories of Turkey; seized several military barracks; deployed tanks to control Ataturk Airport in Istanbul; mobilized fighter jets to continuously circle the skies over the capital Ankara; bombarded the headquarters of the National Intelligence Agency with armed helicopters; and took control of several radio and television stations.

However, the coup was quickly suppressed. The Turkish Justice Minister confirmed that about 6,000 soldiers, officers and associates had been arrested, including many high-ranking generals. At least 265 people were confirmed dead and nearly 1,500 others were injured in the coup's events.

Turkish President Erdogan vowed to make the rebels pay a heavy price and asked the US to extradite cleric Fathullah Gulen to Türkiye for trial. Turkish officials accused Mr. Gulen of being the mastermind of the rebellion plot./.
