Nasser Al-Ansi's death was announced in an 11-minute video by Abu Al-Miqdad Al-Kindi, a senior member of AQAP. The SITE website also confirmed that Nasser Al-Ansi, his son and six other militants were killed in a US drone strike in Moukalla, a town in Hadramout, Yemen.

According to a biography released by AQAP in November 2014, Nasser Al-Ansi was born in October 1975 in Taiz, Yemen. He fought in Bosnia in 1995 before returning to Yemen and then to Kashmir and Afghanistan. Nasser Al-Ansi met with Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. He was imprisoned for six months in Yemen before joining AQAP in 2011.

In January 2015, after the deadly shootings in France, Nasser Al-Ansi appeared in a video claiming that the Kouachi brothers' attack on the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo was planned by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri. According to Nasser Al-Ansi, the attack was in revenge for the cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad that Charlie Hebdo had published.

Previously, in December 2014, Nasser Al-Ansi was also accused by President Barack Obama of being responsible for the deaths of two American and South African hostages, Luke Somers and Peter Korkie. In September 2013, the two hostages were kidnapped by AQAP in the capital Sanaa in Yemen and were threatened with execution if ransom was not paid. However, both hostages later died in a failed rescue operation organized by the US.
