Find outlets for Bon bo and Nghe An incense trees
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of January 22, the Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the Global Environment Facility's Small Projects Grant Program (GES SGP) to hear a report on the implementation of the Bon bo and Huong bai projects in 2015 and the implementation plan for 2016. Comrade Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired.
Attending the meeting were Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen - Coordinator of the Small Project Funding Program in Vietnam, Global Environment Fund; representatives of relevant departments, agencies and branches; leaders of the People's Committees of Que Phong and Quy Hop districts.

The Bon bo project was funded by the Global Environment Facility with a budget of more than 1 billion VND, and was implemented in Que Phong district in 2015 and 2016.
After 1 year of implementation, the project has been fully completed, exceeding the targets and plans set. In early 2015, 5 villages in 2 communes of Nam Nhoong and Chau Thon (Que Phong district) including 52 households were selected to build the conservation, management and sustainable use of Bon bo trees with 2 models: concentrated planting of 14 hectares with 800 trees/ha and protection, enclosure and additional planting of 40 hectares with 200 trees/ha.

Up to now, including households participating in the model and households spreading the project, there are 79 households. The number of Bon bo trees planted in excess or outside the project is 16,260 trees, accordingly, the total area of Bon bo trees newly planted, supplemented, protected and nurtured in the project area is about 74.3 hectares.
In 2016, the project focused on actively implementing the construction and management of a community fund for the conservation and development of Bon bo trees in the form of revolving loans for sustainable development in 2 communes with an amount of 160 million VND.

The model of planting cardamom trees was implemented in 4 villages (Ban Nha, Ban Khi, Ban Teo and Ban Dong Tien) in Chau Cuong commune, Quy Hop district. By December 31, 2015, the project had planted 6.84 hectares, with a total of 50 households participating in the model, of which the first phase planted 5.17 hectares, and the second phase planted 1.67 hectares.

Based on the success of the project and the need to conserve and develop Bon bo and Huong bai trees, the project coordinator recommends that the Provincial People's Committee continue to plan for the conservation and development of these tree varieties, and at the same time have a policy of supporting counterpart resources for the project to continue researching and building planting and production areas.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Hoang Viet Duong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the effective operation of the project over the past year, and emphasized that in the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to coordinate with the Global Environment Fund to research and build planting and production areas, invest in capital, especially consumer markets to help ethnic minorities develop socio-economy, contribute to improving the material and spiritual life of the people and contribute to protecting forests and protecting the ecological environment./.
