(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the situation of sharp decline in pork prices, farmers are facing difficulties and losses, Yen Thanh district (Nghe An) has implemented many solutions to help people consume over 50,000 pigs.

According to statistics, at present, in Yen Thanh district, there are more than 50,000 commercial pigs from 200 farms and households. Because they are mainly raised with industrial feed, the cost of livestock products is high, while the market price is low, only at 22,000 - 25,000 VND/kg of live pigs, leading to losses for farmers.

One of the reasons is that farmers are not proactive in production and consumption plans, and livestock farming is spontaneous.

In fact, the price of live pigs has decreased by more than 50%, while the price of pork in the market has only decreased by 7-10%. In order to find support for livestock farmers, especially farm owners, to overcome difficult times and gradually overcome shortcomings in market development and stabilize the livestock industry, the Department of Agriculture in coordination with the District Farmers' Association organized a pilot model of stabilizing pork consumption for livestock farmers in Minh Thanh commune at Ong market.

This is a model that helps farmers bring products directly to consumers, minimizing intermediate costs. Pork products reaching the price-stabilized pork consumption point at the market must have a clear origin and ensure quality through inspection by veterinary agencies.

In order for the price-stabilized pork consumption points at the markets to attract support from the people, the district is continuing to promote communication and mobilize consumers, officials, and members to prioritize pork in their daily meals. After the pilot model in Minh Thanh commune, Yen Thanh will continue to expand to other points throughout the district.

In addition, the district also encourages farmers to proactively control diseases and seek retail markets. Especially at this time, it is necessary to take advantage of locally available food sources, ensure nutrition for pigs, and minimize the use of industrial feed to reduce production costs.

Along with building a program for the whole population to respond and join hands in consuming pork, the district also directed the Management Board of wholesale markets to publicize pork prices to mobilize support from consumers, and at the same time approved a project to develop livestock farming according to the chain, in which the role of enterprises, associations and cooperatives is maximized to better control the quality, food safety and hygiene and regulate the supply and demand of livestock products.
