This is a program under the Vietnam-Japan archaeological research cooperation project for the period 2014-2019. Luy Lau relic was the headquarters of Giao Chi district during the Han Dynasty. About 2000 years ago, this place was a political, economic and cultural center of the Linh Nam-Bac region of Vietnam.

Based on the excavation results, scientists initially determined that the Inner Citadel was located in the center of the Outer Citadel, with an estimated length of 180 m from East to West and 110 m from North to South. The excavation results also showed that the Luy Lau ancient citadel area could have been a large metallurgical and bronze casting workshop when scientists found more than 900 pieces of Dong Son bronze drum molds and many other valuable artifacts.

Artifacts collected from archaeological excavations are the scientific and practical basis for authorities to develop appropriate plans to manage, preserve and promote the value of Luy Lau ancient citadel relics.

In the coming years, the research team will continue to excavate with the hope of clarifying the appearance of the Luy Lau relic site, evaluating the significance of the headquarters of Giao Chi district in the early AD period, and will organize a number of international conferences to announce research results in Vietnam and Japan.
