Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down on July 17 in eastern Ukraine. The plane was probably shot down by a missile while flying over an area held by separatists.

While determining the cause of the tragedy, the Kiev government and the US confirmed that the ill-fated plane was shot down by an anti-aircraft missile system that Moscow provided to the separatist army. Russia immediately denied the accusation, and said that the Ukrainian army was the author of this tragedy.
