Good news from pure rice variety ND5

(Baonghean) - In the spring crop of 2012, under the direction of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Yen Thanh Seed Station, Nghe An Seed Center in collaboration with Nam Dinh Seed Joint Stock Company, the trial production of pure quality rice variety ND5 was carried out. Production results in some ecological regions in our province showed that ND5 variety has a short growing period and is equivalent to Bac Thom No. 7 (BT7) variety (115-120 days in the spring crop, 97-105 days in the summer-autumn crop). Plants are of average height, with narrow leaf angles, strong and concentrated tillering, grains are closely packed, long and slender, the rice is clear and white, not chalky, the rice is delicious, sticky and has a light aroma. At production sites, in both the summer-autumn and spring crops, the yield is 15-20% higher than BT7 (average of 55-62 quintals/ha in the summer-autumn crop and 65-70 quintals/ha in the spring crop). Wide adaptability to many different ecological zones from plains to mountains, more cold-resistant than BT7, can be planted on many types of land, suitable for highlands and highlands and is a variety that can withstand intensive farming. More resistant to pests and diseases than BT7, especially rice blast and bacterial leaf blight.

ND5 rice variety is suitable for the climate and soil conditions of Nghe An in both production seasons.
