(Baonghean) -Appearing in Thanh Ha, Thanh Chuong area since early 2012 with the profession of fortune telling and banishing bad luck, the woman named Phuc has won the trust of many people. While practicing fortune telling, Mrs. Phuc also "revealed" information: she has two children in Japan, can send people to Japan to work.

Believing her words, many farmers borrowed money to give to the fortuneteller in the hope that their children would have the opportunity to go abroad. But the truth is…

For nearly a month now, the couple Hoang Van Cong - Nguyen Thi Hoan in Thanh Tung commune (Thanh Chuong) have been sitting on hot coals because of the disappearance of the female fortuneteller whom they previously considered a benefactor, along with the 100 million VND that they had to borrow. As farmers who work hard all year round in the fields, in early 2012, when they heard that in Thanh Ha commune there was a female fortuneteller who came to practice fortune telling and perform rituals to ward off bad luck, Cong was curious to find out more. After a while of getting to know her, Cong found that this female fortuneteller had many "special talents", she could speak in Hanoi, Dien Chau and Thanh Chuong accents at the same time. In addition, some other farmer families in Thanh Ha commune, seeing that this fortuneteller seemed "honest and kind", invited her to their homes to ask her to perform rituals to ward off bad luck and bad luck.

The victims spoke indignantly to reporters.

After becoming close to Mr. Cong and other households in Thanh Ha commune, the fortune teller named Phuc began to confide that her hometown was in Dien Chau, her adoptive parents were in Nghia Dan, her husband was a police officer but passed away in an accident. She currently has a son and son-in-law residing in Japan, and can sponsor and send people to Japan to do business at a very low cost and safely. Believing the fortune teller's words, Mr. Cong immediately discussed with his wife and borrowed money for his eldest son, Hoang Van Vo, to go to Japan to do business.

With the couple in harmony, Cong went to see Mrs. Phuc to discuss the matter and ask for help. "I love that Cong is honest and simple", the fortune teller agreed and said that he only needed to pay a small deposit, and that her son in Japan would sponsor and lend him the airfare and other expenses. When he could get a job, he would pay her back. With this news, Cong urged his wife to borrow money to quickly send his son to work abroad with the hope of escaping poverty.

Within a few months, Mr. Cong gave this fortuneteller 99 million VND. After receiving the money, she asked Mr. Cong to give her son's school report card, photo, and ID card so she could apply for a passport and wait for the flight. Since the day the money was handed over, Mr. Cong was restless, constantly calling to urge him and always received a firm answer that "he is doing the paperwork, about to fly". After Tet, Mr. Cong continued to call the fortuneteller to ask about the situation but the phone was unreachable. At this time, he was shocked and worried, so he went to Thanh Ha commune to find out and learned that 3 other people had been scammed like him.

Holding the complaint in her hand, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu in Thanh Ha commune said in tears: "I believed Ms. Phuc had two children in Japan, I gave her 30 million VND to complete the procedures to send my children abroad, but now I can't contact her." In the same situation as Ms. Lieu, Mr. Ngo Van Ba (in Thanh Ha) also borrowed 57 million VND to give her; Mr. Tran Minh Hoa lent her 40 million VND and now he doesn't know when he will get it back. Most of the victims were tricked by the same trick of sending people to Japan. The total amount of money that all 4 families were tricked out was more than 220 million VND.

After realizing they had been scammed, the victims together followed the fortuneteller's trail from Vinh City, to Ha Tinh, to Thai Hoa Town but still had no news. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu said that because they trusted her too much, during the past time, no one specifically asked about the fortuneteller's full name and exact hometown, now that they had been scammed, they did not know where to start looking.

The victims also do not know anything more than describing to reporters about the fortune teller's appearance (a stout figure, about 1m60 tall) and her age of over 50. Currently, the victims have filed a complaint, sent to the commune police and Thanh Chuong district to denounce the fortune teller's fraudulent behavior. "Because we are poor and want our children to work abroad to change their lives, we were deceived. We had to borrow all that money to get it, now we have given it all to her, now we are living a miserable life, half dead because we do not know how to get such a large amount of money to pay off the debt", Mr. Hoang Van Cong confided.

The victim's complaint and the fortune teller's receipt.

Mr. Hoang Cao Phon - Chairman of Thanh Ha Commune People's Committee, said that the woman named Phuc had appeared several times in the locality secretly practicing fortune-telling. The commune police force had repeatedly asked her not to practice her profession and expelled her from the locality, but for some reason, some people still trusted her and gave her money. "When people realized they had been scammed, they came to report to the commune police, but she had already run away. We also hope that the police will step in to investigate and clarify her fraudulent behavior, helping the victims to recover the money they had been scammed."
