Last week, Coach Phan Thanh Hung refused the VFF’s invitation to lead the Vietnam National Team on a full-time and long-term basis. And yesterday, a representative of the VFF confirmed that the list of candidates for the head coach position was…empty when the two remaining candidates, Le Huynh Duc and Nguyen Huu Thang, both withdrew.
According to VFF General Secretary Ngo Le Bang, these two candidates refused the VFF’s invitation because they were busy with their families and clubs, so they could not meet the specialized and long-term working regime that VFF set for the position of head coach of the Vietnam National Team. Mr. Bang also denied the information that the clubs managing these candidates did not agree to give up their coaching positions to VFF.

In fact, VFF had previously proposed a plan to allow the head coach of the Vietnam national team to concurrently hold the job of a club. However, this plan was "whistled" by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training. As a result, all three candidates have now refused, bringing the search for a "captain" for the Vietnam national team back to zero. "VFF will report to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training about the three candidates refusing the invitation to be the full-time coach of the Vietnam national team. Hopefully, the General Department of Sports and Physical Training will have some guidance to find the best plan for the search for a coach," said Mr. Bang.
On the side of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, they still maintain the view that the head coach of the Vietnam National Team should work full-time. “The General Department of Sports and Physical Training has not changed its view on this issue. The VFF should choose a person who specializes in the work of the Vietnam National Team. Maybe because at this time, the V.League has not ended, so the coaches are still busy with their clubs, making the selection process difficult for the VFF,” said the General Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Mr. Vuong Bich Thang.
