Domestic news highlights last week

1. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong chaired the meeting of the Party Central Committee Secretariat.

On the morning of April 10, the Party Central Committee Secretariat met under the chairmanship of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, listening to a report summarizing the inspection results of the Secretariat's five inspection delegations, inspecting 10 provinces and five central agencies on the implementation of Resolution 4 of the 12th Central Committee on Party building and rectification in conjunction with the implementation of Directive 05 of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle.

Concluding the meeting, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the establishment of inspection teams, saying that this was a very necessary task. The inspection showed that Party building work had in fact been given more importance, and the implementation of Resolution 04 of the 12th tenure on Party building and rectification in conjunction with Directive 05 of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle had been carried out seriously, methodically and according to plan.

2. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc dialogues with farmers

On the morning of April 9, in Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had his first dialogue with Vietnamese farmers. This was an opportunity for farmers to make proposals and recommendations directly to the head of the Government, to remove difficulties and obstacles in order to develop agriculture, farmers and rural areas quickly and sustainably.

About 600 delegates including leaders of ministries, departments and branches of the Central Government, departments and branches of Hai Duong province; leaders of 63 farmers' associations of provinces and cities; experts, scientists; representatives of enterprises and cooperatives attended.

Speaking at the opening of the dialogue, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that the most important thing of the meeting was to directly resolve difficulties for farmers. "We are having good agricultural results but that is not enough, we still have a lot of potential for development, we must find ways to resolve all difficulties to develop rural agriculture, improve people's lives" - the Prime Minister emphasized.

3. Former Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Ngo Van Tuan was assigned new tasks.

After being removed from the position of Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa province, Mr. Ngo Van Tuan received a new assignment at the Steering Committee for Urban and Housing Development Planning.

According to information from the Department of Home Affairs of Thanh Hoa province, Mr. Ngo Van Tuan has been assigned a new job by the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province as the head of the working group of the Steering Committee for Urban and Housing Development Planning and Construction.

It is known that the Steering Committee for Urban and Housing Development Planning is headed by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and a Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee is the deputy head. The Committee has the function of urging and guiding sectors and districts on urban and housing development planning.

4. Appeal trial of former National Assembly delegate Chau Thi Thu Nga

On April 10, the High Court in Hanoi opened the appeal trial of defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga (former member of the 13th National Assembly, former Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Housing Group Joint Stock Company) and her accomplices in the case of "Fraudulent appropriation of property" at the B5 Cau Dien project (Hanoi).

Previously in October 2017, the first-instance trial panel of the Hanoi People's Court sentenced defendant Chau Thi Thu Nga to life in prison for fraud and property appropriation.

During 2 days (April 11-12), at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, under the chairmanship of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Politburo met to give opinions on the projects prepared to be submitted to the 7th Central Committee Conference, term XII.

Also at this meeting, the Politburo listened to the Central Inspection Commission report on the proposal to discipline Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee, former Party Secretary, Director of the Political - Logistics Department (B41), General Department of Intelligence, Ministry of Public Security (2009 - 2012).

Pursuant to Regulation No. 102-QD/TW of the Politburo on disciplinary action against violating Party members, the Politburo decided to discipline Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong with a warning.

6. Disciplining key officials in some localities

The Central Inspection Commission said that the Standing Committee of Dak Nong Provincial Party Committee and the Inspection Committees of Ca Mau, Soc Trang, and Quang Binh Provincial Party Committees have just decided to discipline a number of key local officials.

Disciplinary Committee of Ca Mau Provincial Party Committeehas just issued a disciplinary warning to comrade Doan Tan Sy, member of the Party Committee, member of the Executive Committee of the Civil Party Committee, Party Cell Secretary, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ca Mau province.

Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee Inspection Commissionhas decided to issue a disciplinary warning to comrade Vo Phuoc Sang, member of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, Commander of the Military Command of Chau Thanh District and comrade Nguyen Thanh Tien, member of the Standing Committee of the Town Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Head of Vinh Chau Town Police.
