(Baonghean) - Her father died before she could cry at birth, and her mother passed away from a serious illness before she was 7 years old. The poor girl was at risk of becoming an orphan and helpless in life. But human love and life's love helped her stand firm, bringing both faith and hope. Now, the little girl from back then is a student, gradually reaching her dream of becoming a doctor with good expertise and good medical ethics.

ORPHAN FATE

The rented room of Lo Thi Nga - a first-year student at Vinh Medical University is very simple, with only 1 bed, 1 table, 1 chair and a few daily necessities. Looking at that "premises", everyone can easily see the difficult and arduous circumstances of this female student. At the beginning of the story, Nga shared: "Compared to my classmates and the same boarding house, my life is lacking in many ways. But to be able to step into the university lecture hall, for me, is a great fortune, the greatest desire of my life has come true. Because, in a situation like mine, not many people have that luck...". Having said that, Nga's eyes suddenly blurred with tears, tears of sadness mixed with happiness quietly fell. Waiting for her to dry her tears, we expressed our wish to know more about the family situation and the determination to rise up of this petite and gentle female medical student.

Nga's mother is Le Thi Luat, from Dien Chau, a coastal area with a small land area and a large population. During the difficult times, many people had to work hard to make a living. Luat was the same. To help her family have enough food, she had to go up Highway 48 to Phu Quy to find a job. Fate brought her to meet and fall in love with Lo Van Phuong, a Tho ethnic man from Quy Chau district. So the coastal girl became a daughter-in-law in the mountains, her hands gradually getting used to hoeing the fields, sowing rice, and planting corn; her feet gradually getting used to wading streams and climbing passes.

Ms. Luat gave birth to two sons, both of whom were healthy and grew up quickly. But the people in the village believed that if there is a family, there must be a son, so to please her husband, she decided to give birth to her third child, Lo Thi Nga. However, Mr. Phuong was not lucky enough to see his daughter, he did not even have time to know if the child his wife was carrying was a boy or a girl. Because a few months before Ms. Luat gave birth, her husband suddenly fell ill and passed away. Losing the breadwinner, Nga's mother was stunned and almost collapsed. But then, thinking of her children, she had to get up to be their support, she did not want the children she had given birth to to live a life of loneliness. From then on, she became both mother and father and became the pillar of the family.

Life was so difficult and miserable, Nga's mother had to work hard all day to earn a living and earn money to raise her children. The hard work made the woman's health gradually decline, and her illnesses increased day by day. After 6 years of hard work and toil, Luat became seriously ill and passed away, leaving behind 3 young children. More than 10 years have passed, Lo Thi Nga still remembers clearly the moment her mother took her last breath. Even though she was exhausted, she still tried to stand up to look at her 3 children for the last time, then a few tears welled up from the corners of her sunken eyes, her eyes seemed to be reluctant to leave her children. But no one could resist fate. In the last days of her life, Nga's mother lived in pain due to illness, lack of medicine, lack of care, and young children...

The old saying goes: "If you lose your father, you still have your uncle; if you lose your mother, you still have your aunt." After their mother passed away, the three Nga siblings returned to their hometown in Dien Truong (Dien Chau) to live with their aunt Le Thi Ly. Aunt Ly and her husband were also farmers, working hard in the fields all year round, and had many children, so life was already difficult and became even more difficult. Because there were three more mouths to feed, each family member had to reduce their portion sizes and work harder. Fortunately, Aunt Ly and Uncle Phuong (Phan Van Phuong) loved their children like their own children. In addition to taking care of their daily meals, they also created conditions for them to go to school and learn, teaching them good and right things. A few years later, Nga's two older brothers were old enough to earn a living, so they asked their aunt and uncle to let them go to the South to find a way to make a living. Nga was still a thin, pale girl, still having to rely on the arms of her kind aunt. One day I go to school, the other day I help my aunt and uncle with housework and farming, never mind any task. People around me always look at me with love and sympathy.

Although she was thin and weak, the orphan girl was very bright. Nga knew everything she learned. She always volunteered to find the fastest and most accurate way to solve difficult math problems. Teachers often advised Nga to study hard, everything would be rewarded, the future was waiting ahead. Teachers also advised Nga's aunt and uncle to try to create conditions for her to study, not to let her drop out of school halfway, because she was intelligent and strong-willed. Although they felt sorry for their niece who had suffered misfortune early on, and was gentle and kind, even though their circumstances were still difficult, aunt Ly and uncle Phuong still tried to let Nga go to school. The primary and secondary schools were near their house, so Nga could walk to class. But when she went to high school, the school was in another commune, the road was longer, so her aunt and uncle bought her a bicycle to go to class every day.

WRITE DREAMS WITH LOVE

During her school years, little Lo Thi Nga almost always had to use old books. Those were books given to her by her older siblings or sold at cheap prices, because her aunt Ly's family was also struggling and had difficulties, not always having enough money to buy Nga new books. When she was in elementary school, seeing her friends with brand new books that smelled so good, Nga wished she could be like them, sometimes suddenly feeling sorry for herself. But then, the orphan girl soon realized her situation and determined to study well. When she was in 6th grade, there was a time when her aunt and uncle both went to the South to work, leaving Nga alone at home to take care of everything. For a 12-year-old girl, that was really a difficult challenge, because she had to take care of everything from looking after the house, eating, daily activities to studying and homework. Overcoming anxiety, even initial fear, with the encouragement of teachers and friends, Lo Thi Nga did everything well, especially her studies were not neglected, and her academic results were still maintained.

The hardest part was high school years, most of the time she had to study 2 sessions a day, the school was located in Dien My commune so she had to cycle back and forth a long distance. With many additional expenses, sometimes Nga felt confused. Understanding her situation, teachers and friends often cared, encouraged and helped her. Nga could not forget the time she accidentally lost her bicycle, her daily means of transportation to school. Her homeroom teacher Pham Xuan Thieu stood up to mobilize the whole class to donate money to buy Nga a new bicycle, she was moved to tears by the love between teachers and students, friends. Whenever there was a gift or scholarship from charitable organizations, the school always gave priority to Lo Thi Nga - a student who had lost both parents.

Going to high school means orienting and choosing a career for the future. For a long time, Nga dreamed of becoming a nurse to take care of the sick. Now she is determined to pursue her childhood dream. Explaining her dream, Nga confided: “In the last days of her life, my mother lived in pain due to illness, without money to buy medicine, let alone go to the hospital. I loved my mother very much but didn’t know what to do, I just hoped for a miracle. Since then, I dreamed of becoming a nurse to take care of, help and ease the pain of sick people like my mother.”

All her friends signed up for extra classes, but with no money, Nga decided that she had to work hard to achieve her dream. In class, she listened attentively to the lectures and took full notes, asking the teachers to answer any questions she had during class. At home, she took advantage of every moment, staying up late and waking up early to study. There were times when she was so tired that she fell asleep without realizing it, and the image of her mother lying on the bed with a face full of pain came back to haunt her. Nga suddenly woke up, wiped away her tears, and continued with her studies. The image of her mother was like a driving force that urged her to pursue her dream.

Holding in her hands two admission notices from Vinh Medical University (Nursing) and Vinh University (Accounting), Nga was overjoyed but soon anxiety struck. Happy because her efforts had paid off. Worried because her aunt and uncle's circumstances were still difficult, she might not have the opportunity to enroll. After days of hesitation and worry, feeling sorry for her gentle and filial niece, not wanting to let her miss her dream of university, Nga's aunt and uncle decided to try to let her enroll, even though there were still many difficulties ahead. With the support of her two brothers, Nga has now become a student at Vinh Medical University.

Her relatives are all in difficult and hard-working conditions, so this poor female student is very frugal and frugal in her spending. She hopes that the school will have a stable schedule so that she can arrange time to find a suitable job and earn extra income to cover her studies and daily expenses. Because more than anyone, Nga knows that 5-6 years of study is not a short time, the support from her aunt, uncle and brothers is limited, so she has to try harder. And like many other students, she hopes that after graduating, she will find a job to fulfill her old dream and repay the kindness and efforts of her aunt, uncle and brothers.

At a small, simple table, Lo Thi Nga is diligently working on her exercises and medical textbooks. This Tho ethnic female student is on her way to her dream, many difficulties are waiting ahead but everyone believes that she will overcome them. Around her are her family, relatives and good people who are ready to give her love, help her to make her dream come true...
