Located in the border commune of Thong Thu, Que Phong district, Thong Thu Border Post is assigned to manage a border section of over 20 km along the Chu River flowing between Nghe An and Thanh Hoa. In recent years, in addition to its specialized tasks, the unit has also performed the function of participating in socio-economic development, consolidating political bases, ensuring national defense and security in the area, contributing to building a strong and comprehensive border area.

Thong Thu border area is one of the few remaining areas of the province lacking a communication system. Because the assigned area is a remote, border area with potential for economic development, but due to limited education level and slow development of transport infrastructure, the work of maintaining border security, supporting people to develop the economy, and implementing "four together" with the villagers by the soldiers of Thong Thu Border Post is always a key task.

With support from the army for tree seeds, Mr. Tinh's family grows cajuput trees.and fruit trees on an area of 1000 m2

Witnessing the joy of Nguyen Van Sau's family when he immersed himself in the Chu River in the bitter cold to harvest fish - the result of his family's development of cage fish farming. This was thanks to his family's bold economic development following the instructions of the Ang village border guard team. The fish harvested from cage fish farming helped him earn an additional income of nearly 30 million VND in the year-end fish season. That source of income helped his family to overcome hunger and poverty to overcome difficulties and rise up. The contributions and silent achievements are the warmth of the military-civilian relationship that has been kindled in this remote area.

Or the VAC farm model of Mr. Ha Duc Tinh's family in Hiep Phong village, Thong Thu commune. Those were the first hoe strokes on this barren land mixed with the sweat of border guards. Mr. Ha Duc Tinh has now said goodbye to poverty and backwardness. Giving up the nomadic production method, living off the mountains and forests, Ha Duc Tinh listened to the soldiers, determined to open a business direction, developing the economy based on the favorable conditions of his homeland.

He expanded his Melaleuca plantation, and now his Melaleuca forest has gradually covered the previously barren land and hills. The fish pond, vegetable garden, and the number of livestock and poultry on the farm have also increased significantly. Every day, Mr. Tinh and the border guards "smash" the wasteland at the beginning of Hiep Phong village to "turn rocks into rice". His family's business orientation and commodity economic development have motivated the entire border village to realize its determination to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty.

Talking to us, Major Tran Van Nhan, Political Commissar - Deputy Head of Thong Thu Station, said that in the coming years, in addition to performing its functions and tasks, the unit will continue to closely coordinate with local authorities to effectively implement support programs, helping people develop socio-economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. In particular, focusing on promoting afforestation, reforesting bare hills, advising local Party committees and authorities in performing the task of strengthening security and defense, building a strong and comprehensive grassroots political system, ensuring peace in the villages.
