Notable details surrounding the case of a couple robbed of 2 billion VND from land sale
After signing a land sale contract and receiving 2.5 billion VND from the buyer, Mr. TVL (born in 1973) and his wife rode their motorbike home. On the way, they were approached by a man on a motorbike, who snatched their bag of money and escaped.
Many days have passed, Mr. L (living in Go Vap district, Ho Chi Minh City) is still in shock because he was robbed of a large amount of money, which he saved all his life. According to Mr. L, he had a piece of land in Thanh Xuan ward, district 12 that he needed to sell. Through a broker, Mr. L sold the land for 2.3 billion VND to a person in Thanh Xuan ward. On August 21, Mr. L and the buyer made a deposit of 200 million VND. The remaining amount of 2.1 billion VND will be fully paid when going to the Notary Office to sign the sales contract after 30 days (ie September 21).

Mr. L was still shocked when he recounted the robbery of a large sum of money. |
“Because I needed money, 5 days before the notarization, I called the buyer to sign the contract early, but they did not agree. After that, the broker called me and said the buyer agreed to notarize the sale 1 day in advance,” said Mr. L.
On September 20, Mr. L was scheduled to meet the broker at 2:30 p.m. to sign the documents and pay the money at Nha Rong Notary Office (Le Thi Rieng Street, Tan Thoi An Ward, District 12). He reported: “Before 2 p.m., the land broker called me and said the buyer was busy with a meeting and needed to get the notarization done soon. My wife and I drove there on a motorbike. Because my wife's year of birth in the ID card and the marriage certificate was wrong and did not match, the notarization took until 4 p.m. the same day to complete. Because of that mistake, the buyer kept 50 million VND and only paid 2.5 billion VND.”
After the notarization, the buyer handed over the cash. Not having anything to hold the money, Mr. L borrowed the buyer's handbag. The handbag was black, had a handle, was about 50cm wide and 30cm high. Leaving the notary office at 4:10 p.m., Mr. L thought the bank was closed, so the couple decided to take the money home.
The wife carefully wrapped the bag strap around her wrist several times, covered it with a raincoat and placed it between the couple. Also because he thought he had sent the account number to the broker and did not think he would receive cash, Mr. L drove his motorbike without a trunk. He carried his wife on a Dream motorbike from Le Thi Rieng Street to National Highway 1A, crossed Truong Dai Bridge (from District 12 to Go Vap), turned onto Pham Van Chieu Street. When they reached house number 79, Pham Van Chieu Street, Ward 14, because someone was coming from Street 51, Mr. L slowed down.
Suddenly, a subject from behind ran up, approaching Mr. L's car to the right. The subject used his left hand to grab the handbag. Ms. T struggled, but the handbag strap broke, the subject snatched the bag and escaped. Ms. T fainted on the spot because she lost such a large amount of money.
Mr. L immediately went to the police station of Ward 14, Go Vap district to report. Up to now, the Go Vap district police have invited Mr. L and his wife to work and take their initial statements. In addition to the amount of 2 billion 50 million VND received from the land buyer, the bag also contained many types of documents such as marriage certificate, household registration book, photocopied ID card.
