'Reactionary organization behind candidate' is just personal opinion
Responding to Mr. Nguyen Quang A's petition regarding the information that "reactionary organizations are behind some candidates for the National Assembly" and the lack of transparency in taking voters' trust, Secretary General of the National Assembly, Nguyen Hanh Phuc, said this is only his personal opinion.
The closing press conference of the 11th session of the 13th National Assembly took place this morning after about 20 working days. In one hour, dozens of questions revolving around the process of perfecting key personnel, evaluating candidate qualifications, sanctions for failing to meet socio-economic targets... were sent to Secretary General of the National Assembly Nguyen Hanh Phuc. At the same time, as Chief of Office of the National Election Council, Mr. Phuc also received many questions about the process of reviewing self-nominated deputies running for the National Assembly.

He stated his views as follows:
The XIII term did not have any evaluation of self-nominated delegates, only a general evaluation of the delegates' performance in completing their tasks. It is very regrettable that the 13th term had two female delegates who were dismissed from office. I think that there is no distinction between self-nominated and nominated delegates, both of whom spoke very actively.
This term has many independent candidates. Hanoi has 48 people after the second round of consultations, which is very good, proving that people see the position of this forum. How much trust is up to the people.
We have just received a petition from Mr. Nguyen Quang A. The Election Council has responded in writing with the following content: "That information is not the opinion of the Election Council, not the opinion of the National Security and Defense Subcommittee, but a personal opinion. We and the National Security and Defense Subcommittee do not confirm this matter."
I want to emphasize that we are in the process of negotiation, and we do not know who will be on the list yet. The election campaign period must be in accordance with the law. The regulations require the opinions of the local residents, because no one understands the candidates better than the local residents, in terms of ethics, family, and personality.
If you are good, people will say you are good. If you are not good, people will say you are not good. It is very clear and fair. In the end, people will vote. If you get over 50%, you will be recommended. If you get under 50%, you will not be recommended. This is regulated.
Previously on March 15, at the working session of the election monitoring delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc with Hanoi city, a member of the monitoring delegation commented that this election was more complicated, and a self-nomination movement had formed. Among the 47 self-nominated candidates in Hanoi, "some have the support of domestic and foreign reactionary organizations that campaign for them, even providing financial support for their campaigns," he said, but did not specify any cases. From here, he said there will be some cases of self-nomination that will have to be removed from the list after the rounds of consultation. "At that time, some cases that are eliminated will certainly be considered undemocratic. They will campaign and entice voters not to participate in the election or go to the election but not vote for anyone," he said. According to schedule, before April 17, the whole country will complete the third round of consultations. After the consultations, the official list of candidates for National Assembly deputies will be announced and publicly posted. |
