Organizing Korean language contest for poor district workers
On August 20, the Overseas Labor Center and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea opened a computer-based Korean language test for workers from 62 poor districts to work in Korea in the agricultural sector in 2012.
Accordingly, the exam period from August 20 to August 31 has 755 poor district workers taking the exam. In addition, from now until the end of November, nearly 3,000 poor district workers have registered to take the Korean language test to work in Korea in the agricultural sector. Mr. Luong Duc Long - Deputy Director of the Overseas Labor Center - said: Up to now, about 250-300 poor district workers have gone to Korea, mainly working in agriculture such as growing water spinach, taking care of various vegetables, growing flowers, growing mushrooms, harvesting vegetables, raising cows and pigs; working in fisheries such as near-shore fishing, aquaculture, and processing aquatic products, with a basic salary of about 1 million won/month (equivalent to more than 900 USD/month). Currently, Korea has a high demand for labor in the agricultural and fishery sectors, focusing on many foreign workers, including Vietnamese.
To create the best conditions for poor district workers, from now until mid-November, the Overseas Labor Center will organize 9 supplementary classes, reviewing basic knowledge of Korean, instructing workers on skills to review and take Korean tests on computers. According to the provisions of Decision No. 71/2009/QD-TTg dated April 29, 2009 of the Prime Minister, workers from poor households and ethnic minority households attending the training course will be supported with tuition fees: 500,000 VND/person/15-day course and supported with food and living expenses, accommodation of 100,000 VND/person/15-day course; workers from other groups in poor districts will be supported with 50% of the tuition support (250,000 VND/person/15-day course).
