Civil status registration and management is an important task to create a legal basis for the State to recognize and protect human rights, citizens' rights and obligations. In order to create a long-term, stable and unified legal basis for civil status registration and management, and to overcome the causes of shortcomings. The Civil Status Law was passed by the National Assembly at the 8th Session of the 13th National Assembly.

The Law on Civil Status has 7 chapters and 77 articles specifically regulating civil status registration at the People's Committees at district and commune levels; state management responsibilities for civil status; civil status officials performing civil status work; civil status database, issuance of civil status extracts. The Law takes effect from January 1, 2016.

The Law on Civil Status emphasizes the role of civil status registration, stipulates strong reforms in the order and procedures for civil status registration, creates maximum convenience for people, and decentralizes to grassroots authorities to maximize the capacity and responsibility of local authorities.

In addition, the Law clearly stipulates the standards and qualifications of civil servants performing civil status work, aiming to improve the capacity of this team, increase responsibility and professionalism, and limit errors and violations.

Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong suggested that provinces and cities need to strengthen information, propaganda and dissemination of the Law on Civil Status.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong requested ministries, branches and People's Committees of provinces and cities to organize the implementation of the Law on Civil Status, ensure funding, arrange resources to effectively implement the provisions of the Law on Civil Status, strengthen information, propaganda and dissemination work to bring the Law on Civil Status into life./.
