A menu from the last lunch on the ill-fated Titanic was sold for $88,000 at an auction on September 30 in New York (USA).

According to online auction house Lion Heart Autographs, this menu was placed on the table of Abraham Lincoln Salomon, a first-class passenger, during the last lunch before the terrible tragedy of the ship's sinking.

The menu offered the upper-class guests dishes such as corned beef, fruit cake... On the back of the menu was the pencil signature of a first-class diner who is said to have had lunch with Salomon on the fateful day of the Titanic in 1912. Salomon took the menu with him when he was taken to LifeBoat 1 and this character was lucky to escape death.

The steam-powered Titanic was built in 1909 and launched in 1912. As the largest, most modern, magnificent and luxurious ship of its time, Titanic carried the ambition to dominate the transatlantic sea route. However, on its first and last transatlantic voyage in April 1912, Titanic sank after hitting an iceberg, causing the deaths of more than 1,500 people.

The sinking went down in history as the world's deadliest peacetime maritime disaster, the subject of numerous investigations, lawsuits, and intriguing theories, and led to major changes in international maritime safety regulations.

Titanic also became the setting and subject for many literary, artistic and cinematic works./.
