Seminar "Nghe An ornamental plants, potential and prospects"

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 17, the Standing Committee of the Fatherland Front of Nghe An province coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Provincial Ornamental Plants Association to organize a seminar "Nghe An Ornamental Plants, Potential and Prospects". Attending were representatives of the Provincial People's Committee, Vinh City People's Committee and mass organizations.

Delegates heard reports on the general characteristics of ornamental plants and the potential and current status of ornamental plants in Nghe An in particular. The province has a large land area, many mountains of raw materials, many special-use forests with a variety of living animals and plants... Currently, the whole province has over 4,000 members in 200 branches of 104 ornamental plant associations at commune, ward and town levels; 8 ornamental plant associations at district, town and city levels. There are 400 hectares of ornamental plants, 40 companies, garden houses, 5 ornamental plant craft villages, 69 driftwood processing facilities, 35 rockery facilities, 109 pot production facilities and 16 ornamental fish farming facilities... attracting over 3,000 workers; contributing tens of billions of VND to the state budget each year.

Although not widespread, the province has many effective SVC economic models from different industries such as: Flower growing model in Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Vinh City, Do Luong; driftwood processing model in Do Luong, Anh Son, Tan Ky; ornamental bird breeding model in Yen Thanh, Tan Ky; ornamental stone processing in fine art stone in Vinh City, Nghia Dan, Quy Hop...

Through the implementation of the scientific research topic "Investigation of the current status and solutions for preserving ancient trees and rare ornamental plants in Nghe An province", it is shown that Nghe An province has 461 trees - belonging to 43 species with ages from 100 - 1,000 years old (including 5 ancient fig trees in Nghi Loc that have been recognized as Vietnam Heritage)...

At the discussion, delegates had many opinions: It is necessary to propagate and raise awareness for all levels, sectors and people to see the importance of SVC in the industrialization and modernization process, in the urbanization process and in the context of global climate change. Thereby, pay attention to SVC planning in socio-economic development planning and urban development planning; have policies and mechanisms in vocational training, loans, agricultural land conversion... associated with the new rural construction program and the movement to build cultural life in residential areas. The Association should organize many training courses to raise awareness and understanding of SVC, SVC practice skills; build a technical team on SVC to meet the needs of the people.
