On the afternoon of October 31, the official welcoming ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation was solemnly held at the Great Hall of the People according to the highest protocol reserved for heads of state.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping presided over the welcoming ceremony.

Attending the welcoming ceremony were: Wang Yi, member of the Politburo, member of the State Council, Minister of Foreign Affairs; He Lifeng, member of the Politburo, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission of China; Liu Jianchao, member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee; Wang Wentao, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Commerce; Guo Yezhou, Deputy Head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee; Wu Jianghao, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China; and many leaders of departments, ministries, branches of the Central Committee and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference to welcome General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam.

Immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

On behalf of the Party, State, Government and people of China, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping warmly welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to their official visit to China, expressing his joy at meeting General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong again after five years.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that Vietnam and China are two neighboring countries connected by mountains and rivers, both are socialist countries led by the Communist Party. The traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, built and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong and the revolutionary predecessors of the two countries, is a precious common asset of the two Parties, two countries and two peoples.

The two General Secretaries had in-depth discussions on many international and regional issues of mutual concern.

On the afternoon of October 31, 2022, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between ministries, sectors, and localities of the two countries.

Also this afternoon at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping presided over the ceremony to award the Friendship Medal of the People's Republic of China to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Respectfully presenting the Friendship Medal to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a person who steadfastly maintains the good traditional friendship between China and Vietnam, has made many important contributions, and is the person who guides and promotes the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam.

General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping stated that the awarding of the Friendship Medal to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong demonstrates the friendship of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese people towards General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong personally and the Vietnamese people, symbolizing the deep and warm feelings of comradeship and brotherhood between China and Vietnam.

At the same time, it includes the earnest hope of the two Parties and Peoples to pursue an even better future in the coming time.

Expressing his delight at receiving the Friendship Medal from the People's Republic of China, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sincerely thanked the Party, State and People of fraternal China for their highest recognition and good feelings for the Party, State and People of Vietnam and the General Secretary himself.

Next, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping respectfully invited and joined General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in a tea party.

This is a special gesture, demonstrating the respect and goodwill of China's nuclear leader, who wishes to increase closeness and trust with Vietnam's top leader.

In a joyful, warm and friendly atmosphere, the two General Secretaries recalled memories of the intimate tea party at the Great Hall of the People during the official friendship visit to China by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong (January 2017) and the tea party at the Uncle Ho's Stilt House Relic Site in Hanoi during the official visit to Vietnam in November 2017 by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping.

On November 1, the General Secretary informed Prime Minister Li Keqiang of the very good results of the talks with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping; highly appreciated the Chinese Government for its many important contributions to consolidating and developing the relationship between the two countries; suggested that with their important roles, the Governments of the two countries should direct agencies, ministries and branches to successfully implement the cooperation agreements signed between the two sides during the visit.

At the meeting, the two sides expressed their delight at the positive and healthy development trend of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries in recent times. The two sides agreed that in the new development stage of the two Parties, the two countries and the current international context, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation in all fields, maintain regular exchanges and high-level contacts, enhance political trust, restore development; promote cooperation in trade and investment, create a material foundation and driving force for the development of the relationship between the two countries; coordinate to bring bilateral trade turnover to grow steadily and sustainably; strengthen cooperation in ensuring the stability of the supply chain; coordinate and make good use of free trade agreements; strengthen strategic development connections to contribute to economic recovery and development after the pandemic.
