This year's winter crop production is determined to take place in less favorable conditions and more difficult conditions. Weather developments are extremely unpredictable, posing many potential risks to production; the summer-autumn rice harvest is slower than previous years, which will affect the production season of crops on double-rice land; the rural labor force is shifting to other jobs, and the limited traction for land preparation will affect land preparation for winter crop production...

In that situation, the agricultural sector has focused on directing, exploiting and promoting all resources for investment in winter crop production in a comprehensive, safe and highly efficient commodity production direction. The whole province strives to cultivate over 50,000 hectares of various crops, including 28,000 hectares of corn; 1,500 hectares of peanuts; 12,500 hectares of vegetables and beans; in addition, 3,500 hectares of fish for the third crop and 8,000 hectares of industrial crops.

In his concluding remarks at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated: In the conditions of summer-autumn production - the season of damage due to drought, winter crop production needs to make efforts to ensure that the target of food output in 2015 is met. It is necessary to focus on directing the correct implementation of the variety structure and crop calendar. For corn, depending on each land area, sowing must be completed before October 30. For late-sown areas, varieties with short growing periods must be used, ensuring harvest before January 30, 2016 to free up land for spring crop production.

Localities should base on the characteristics of the situation, soil, season, usage target as well as the ability to intensively cultivate to select the most suitable corn varieties to include in the production structure. This ensures both minimizing damage caused by floods and ensuring high productivity and not affecting spring crop production. In addition to properly implementing the instructions on variety structure, planting season, and making the right and sufficient investment, it is necessary to pay attention to pest and disease prevention for crops./.
