According to statistics from the agricultural sector, this year's spring crop has planted over 87,240 hectares of rice in the province, of which 5,000 hectares are early spring rice and 82,240 hectares are mid-spring rice. However, this year, the rice blast disease appeared earlier than every year. Up to now, the disease has occurred and caused damage in most localities in the province, the total infected area has increased to 498.8 hectares (Nghi Loc 234 hectares, Vinh City 207.6 hectares, Hung Nguyen 29.5 hectares....), of which 36.8 hectares are heavily infected and especially 2.5 hectares have been "burned". The common disease rate is 5 - 7%, in some places it is 15 - 30% and locally it is up to 50 - 70%, mainly concentrated on varieties such as Xi 23, NX 30, TL6, BC 15, AC 5,... In addition, golden apple snails have appeared and damaged over 84.5 hectares, of which 11.7 hectares are heavily infected with a high density of 7 - 10 snails/m2, concentrated in Nam Dan district, Vinh city and Tan Ky; Nematodes have damaged over 202 hectares of rice in Nam Dan district with a common damage rate of 5 - 7%, in some places it is 10 - 20%.. Rats have also appeared and damaged some rice areas near villages and sandbanks. The whole province currently has 58.7 hectares damaged by rats, of which 2.7 hectares are severely damaged, concentrated in Vinh city and Dien Chau; Leaf rot disease occurred locally on 20.4 hectares in Vinh City at a rate of 5 - 10%, locally 40 - 50%; Other pests such as green aphids, grasshoppers, various types of planthoppers, thrips, etc. occurred sporadically.

In addition, on peanuts, root rot and stem rot have occurred and caused damage on an area of 4.2 hectares; cutworms have occurred and caused damage on 10 hectares in Nam Dan district. Stem and shoot borers, cutworms, mice, dwarf leaf wrinkle phenomenon... have occurred and caused local damage on spring corn. Downy mildew, aphids, flea beetles, silkworms, tomato wilt, cabbage soft rot... have occurred and caused light, local damage on some spring vegetable areas.
Up to now, localities have sprayed to prevent and control over 387 hectares of rice infected with leaf blast disease, 62 hectares damaged by golden apple snails. According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huong (Deputy Director of Plant Protection Department), the most worrying thing in the coming time is leaf blast disease on rice plants. Warming weather conditions, alternating cold air waves, high humidity accompanied by rain combined with farmers fertilizing rice are favorable conditions for the disease to arise, spread and cause serious damage on a large scale. Especially on sandy soil, light loam, semi-mountainous areas, planting highly susceptible varieties such as Xi 23, NX 30, BC 15, AC 5, Khai Phong, IR 17494, Nep, ... and on fields with unbalanced fertilization, excess nitrogen fertilization. In addition, white-backed planthoppers and brown planthoppers continue to accumulate and increase in density causing damage. Some other objects such as golden apple snails, mice, nematodes, green aphids, various types of planthoppers, thrips, grasshoppers, ... continue to arise and cause local damage in some areas. On corn and spring peanuts, cutworms, green worms, armyworms, stem borers, shoot borers, leaf-eating worms, dwarf leaf wrinkle, root rot, etc. continue to arise and cause damage. Objects such as downy mildew, green wilt, cabbage rot, aphids, flea beetles, silkworms, etc. continue to arise and cause damage.
Spring vegetable care in Nam Xuan (Nam Dan)
To minimize damage caused by pests and diseases, localities and farmers need to strictly implement technical measures recommended by the Plant Protection Department. Take care and fertilize rice plants in a balanced and technical manner. In rice fields infected with blast disease, it is necessary to immediately stop fertilizing with nitrogen, keep enough water in the fields and carry out prevention with one of the following drugs: Katana 20SC, Beam 75WP, Filia 525SE, Vista 72.5 WP, Bump 650WP, Kabim 30WP, Ensino 40 SC, ... according to the recommended amount. If the disease continues to occur, spray again 5-7 days after the first spray. When the disease stops developing, fertilize again. In addition, in areas with high density of golden apple snails, it is necessary to focus on catching snails and collecting egg nests to limit density. On corn, it is necessary to remove and destroy plants with symptoms such as dwarfism, leaf curl and replace them with healthy plants to ensure density. Corn areas with a high rate of diseased plants need to be plowed and rotated with other crops. At the same time, regularly pay close attention to the development of other pests and diseases to have appropriate management measures when necessary. In particular, with spring peanut areas, farmers need to regularly check and detect early symptoms of root rot and stem rot to prevent and control them with one of the following drugs: Amitatop 325SC, Cavil 50 SC, Carban 50 SC, Moren 20WP, Cacbenzim 50 WP, ... (according to the recommended dose) on infected fields and areas that are often severely damaged by the disease. In addition, regularly pay close attention to the development of pests and diseases on spring vegetable crops to have timely treatment measures.
