Artificial intelligence experts claim that by 2040, computers and robots will commit more crimes than humans, The Sun reported on September 8. They warn that killing machines will carry out “lone wolf” terrorist attacks, closely linked to extremist terrorists.

“The workforce is evolving towards automation. About 35% of jobs done by humans today are being replaced by robots,” Tracey Follows, director of innovation and strategy at The Future Lab, told Raconteur.

"Many experts warn that 'lone wolf' terrorist attacks will increase sharply in the coming years, when robots are interfered with and turned into suicide bombers," Follows shared.

The rise of artificial intelligence could see machines surpass humans in cognitive abilities, creating a wave of robot crime. Figures from the UK National Crime Agency’s 2016 Cybercrime Review report show that cybercrime accounted for 54% of all offences in 2015.

As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, cybercrime will become more complex, affecting both the real and virtual worlds.

"We will soon see humans become helpless. Vehicles can prevent their owners from driving if they do not pay a ransom. Not only autonomous vehicles but also a modern, connected vehicle can do this," said Raj Samani, chief technology officer at Intel Security.

Google engineers also warned of the possibility of cleaning robots attacking their owners if they interfere with their work, a plot that sounds like science fiction but could become reality faster than people think.
