High shrimp prices cause many consequences
The price of whiteleg shrimp has reached a record of 200,000 VND/kg, which is why many localities are massively farming them, causing many consequences.
In Ben Tre, the shrimp farming fever is urging people in Binh Dai district to defy the ban and continue cutting down coconut trees, digging ponds, and drilling wells to bring in salt water to raise shrimp.
Up to now, in this district, there have been more than 700 hectares of saltwater shrimp farming in the freshwater area, nearly 1,000 wells drilled to get saltwater. Currently, there are about 1,500 shrimp farming households in the freshwater planning area, but only 6 households have been administratively sanctioned for illegally digging ponds.

In Quang Nam, in order to rectify the situation of massive digging of ponds to raise white-leg shrimp, causing serious environmental consequences, the Provincial People's Committee has given strong instructions to prevent the creation of new ponds.
For shrimp farming areas, it is allowed to be raised until harvest, after which farmers must commit to raising them according to the correct process, without harming the environment. Currently, in Quang Nam, the number of shrimp farming ponds has reached over 300 hectares, with a harvest output of about 9,200 tons/year.
