Honoring 70 typical examples in humanitarian and charity movements

(Baonghean.vn) - On November 23, the Provincial Red Cross Society held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (November 23, 1946 - November 23, 2016) and honor the compassionate hearts of 2016.

Attending the ceremony were members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Le Xuan Dai - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Huong - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Provincial Agencies and leaders of provincial departments and branches.

At the ceremony, delegates reviewed the glorious 70-year tradition of the Vietnam Red Cross Society. On November 23, 1946, at Thanh Am communal house, Van Dinh town, Ung Hoa district, Ha Tay (now Hanoi), the Vietnam Red Cross Society was officially established.

During the resistance war, Red Cross members actively participated in serving on the front lines, organizing first aid stations, field hospitals, rear hospitals, participating in first aid, caring for wounded soldiers, martyrs' families, etc.

Since November 1957, the Vietnam Red Cross Society officially became a member of the international Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, laying the foundation for Vietnam's international integration in the humanitarian field.

During its development, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has always actively consolidated and developed its organization, actively participated in social work and humanitarian relief, disaster prevention and mitigation, and community-based health care.

Continuing the glorious 70-year tradition of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Nghe An Red Cross Society has constantly innovated and developed. Established on August 14, 1979, the provincial Red Cross Society now has nearly 7,000 grassroots organizations with 522 full-time staff, nearly 138,000 members, 16,000 volunteers and more than 117,000 Red Cross youth.

The Association has launched a number of humanitarian movements and campaigns that have been spreading and creating a strong impression in the community. The Association has become a bridge and coordinator in humanitarian activities such as: The campaign "Each organization and individual is associated with a humanitarian address", implemented since 2008, with nearly 44,000 humanitarian addresses supported with an amount of nearly 29 billion VND. Implementing the movement "Tet for the poor and victims of Agent Orange", in the past 5 years, it has mobilized to give Tet gifts to 147 thousand poor people, with a total value of over 38 billion VND.

The association at all levels has supported over 23,000 addresses in need of regular and emergency support in the community, worth over 7.5 billion VND. The “Cow Bank” project, implemented since 2007, has mobilized and donated 1,489 cows to disadvantaged households in 10 poor, border districts with a total cost of about 19 billion VND.

The Association has also coordinated to organize free medical examinations and medicine distribution for 78 thousand poor people. The Association has mobilized a large number of people to participate in voluntary blood donation, reaching nearly 73 thousand units in 5 years... The total value of the Association's activities in the past 5 years has reached over 128 billion VND, more than 4 times higher than the State's support budget.

Comrade Le Xuan Dai commended and acknowledged the contributions of association officials, organizations, individuals, and philanthropists who have made many contributions to the province's humanitarian and charitable movements in recent times.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Le Xuan Dai praised and acknowledged the contributions of cadres, members, volunteers, and youth of the Red Cross in the province; as well as organizations, individuals, clubs, and volunteer groups that have accompanied the Red Cross in humanitarian and charitable activities over the years. The Vice Chairman suggested that in the coming time, all levels of the Red Cross in the province continue to carry out practical and effective activities, constantly innovate, and improve the quality of activities towards the grassroots.

Party committees and authorities at all levels need to regularly care for the Red Cross Society, develop and expand humanitarian and charitable models; improve the quality of voluntary blood donation activities... At the same time, we hope that philanthropists and organizations will continue to contribute resources to humanitarian and charitable work in the province, so that more people in difficult circumstances have the motivation and conditions to improve their lives.
