In recent years, grassroots mediation activities have affirmed their great role and important significance in social life, contributing to strengthening solidarity in the community, promoting national cultural identity, promptly preventing violations of the law, ensuring political stability and social security. Thanks to mediation work, the situation of prolonged complaints and denunciations, which go beyond the level of authority, has significantly decreased. Grassroots mediation work is also a form of propaganda to popularize and educate the people about the law.
Currently, the province has 5,092 mediation teams with 36,525 mediators. Of these, 5,428 mediators have legal qualifications, accounting for 14.86%. Since 2009, the mediation teams have received 37,406 cases, of which 30,178 cases were successfully mediated, accounting for 80.67%. In the first 6 months of 2014 alone, the mediation teams have received 16,271 cases, of which 12,431 cases were successfully mediated, reaching 76.39%. The cases mainly revolve around civil matters, marriage and family, land disputes, property, etc.

Mr. Duong Huu Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Justice, presented a report on grassroots mediation work in the period 2009-2014. |
At the conference, delegates listened to presentations by outstanding mediators, presenting the results, experiences as well as difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process. Notably, the capacity and qualifications of mediators are still limited; disputes are increasingly diverse and complicated; funding for mediation teams and training for grassroots mediators is not commensurate, thus not encouraging mediation activities at the local level; the attention and direction of some Party committees and local authorities are not appropriate.
