General Secretary attends the 2016 Military-Political Conference

The General Secretary emphasized the need to continue building a position of people's hearts and minds, and to build a truly clean and comprehensively strong military force.

On December 13, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held the 2016 Military-Political Conference to review all aspects of military and defense work and the emulation movement for victory in 2016; and to deploy tasks and the emulation movement for victory in 2017.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the General Secretary commended the achievements of the army over the past year, contributing together with the people of the whole country to implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress; affirming the role of the army, worthy of the trust and love of the Party, State and people.

The General Secretary pointed out: In 2017, the second year of implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress and the 10th Military Party Congress, the entire army needs to focus on leading and directing the implementation of five key tasks. Party committees and commanders at all levels need to continue to study and grasp the situation, do better in forecasting, strategic advice, early detection, and timely advice to the Party, State, and Central Military Commission to direct and effectively handle situations that arise, absolutely not to be passive or surprised; continue to thoroughly grasp and effectively implement the Homeland Protection Strategy; focus on improving the quality of training and cadre training.

The General Secretary emphasized the need to continue building a people's heart and mind posture, building a truly clean and strong military force; closely combining the economy with national defense and security, national defense and security with the economy in each strategy, plan, and policy for socio-economic development; closely combining national defense and security with foreign affairs, in which continuing to perform well the task of foreign defense affairs in accordance with the Party and State's policies and guidelines.

Party committees and commanders at all levels need to continue to take care of building clean and strong Party organizations associated with building strong units in all aspects, creating high solidarity and unity in leadership and direction in performing tasks; taking the lead in effectively implementing Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (term XI, XII) on Party building and rectification, fighting degradation, "self-evolution", and "self-transformation".

The army must be an absolutely loyal force, absolutely steadfast in the goals, ideals, and path of socialism; continue to effectively implement Directive No. 05 of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and lifestyle.

The army needs to pay special attention to personnel work; plan command and management cadres at all levels; continue to direct the implementation of mass mobilization work, participate in building local political bases, help people eliminate hunger, reduce poverty, prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, rescue and relief; further improve the material and spiritual life of soldiers and implement military rear policies.

At the same time, continue to implement the Defense Industry Program according to Resolution No. 06 of the 11th Politburo on building and developing the defense industry until 2020 and the following years.

The General Secretary hopes that the work contents of 2017 will be led and directed in a resolute, positive, focused and key manner, ensuring clear and practical results.

The General Secretary believes that the army will definitely successfully complete all assigned tasks, forever worthy of the title "Uncle Ho's soldiers", worthy of the love and trust of the Party, State and people.
