General Secretary meets Vietnamese community in the US
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong last night met intimately with representatives of the Vietnamese community and overseas students in the US, listening to their thoughts and aspirations.
According to VTV, at the meeting, the General Secretary inquired about the lives of overseas Vietnamese, shared the country's situation, foreign policy, major policies of the Party and State, and affirmed that the country's achievements today have an important contribution from the overseas Vietnamese community, including overseas Vietnamese living in the US.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hopes that overseas Vietnamese in the US, the largest Vietnamese community abroad, will continue to make practical contributions to the homeland. "I only hope that you, my brothers and sisters, and comrades, will always think of yourself as Vietnamese. Even though you have foreign nationality, you are still our compatriots," said the General Secretary.
Many overseas Vietnamese expressed their wish that the General Secretary would share more about domestic issues so that they could better identify the work they need to do to join hands in building the Fatherland. They also said they were very excited about the successful outcome of the General Secretary’s visit, through which the Vietnam-US relationship has increasingly developed practically and stably.
According to the Chinhphu.vn online newspaper, representatives of the Vietnamese community in the US expressed their deep concern about the situation in the country, the East Sea issue, and the sacred territorial sovereignty of the Fatherland; they wished to contribute their heart and mind to the cause of national construction and development, and at the same time play a good role as a bridge for friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and other countries and partners.
