General Secretary meets with Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Belgium

On January 17, immediately after arriving in Brussels, the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and had a meeting with Crown Prince Philippe of the Kingdom of Belgium at the Royal Palace.

Also attending the meeting on the Vietnamese side were Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Party Central Committee member, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan; Party Central Committee member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; and Vietnamese Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union Pham Sanh Chau.

Crown Prince Philippe warmly welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to their official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium. The visit, taking place in the year the two countries celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, is an important event, marking a new step in the development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Crown Prince shared with the General Secretary his good impressions and feelings about the beautiful country, friendly and hospitable people and important socio-economic achievements during his previous visits to Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his pleasure at the official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium and thanked the Crown Prince for taking the time to receive the delegation. The General Secretary highly appreciated the role of the Royal Family in the politics of the Kingdom of Belgium and thanked the Crown Prince for always giving the Vietnamese people good feelings and effective cooperation and assistance in the past time. At the same time, he affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to and advocates strengthening comprehensive cooperation with Belgium, a founding member and an important member of the European Union (EU).

In a sincere and friendly atmosphere, the two sides were pleased to see the friendship and cooperation between the two countries developing positively and increasingly diversely.
The two sides agreed that it is necessary to continue maintaining high-level contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels; coordinate the organization of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2013; and strengthen cooperation in trade and investment in areas where Belgium has strengths such as seaport development and logistics services, transportation, green technology, high technology, aerospace technology, heavy industry, healthcare, etc.

The two sides emphasized that education and training cooperation is a bright spot in bilateral relations with priority given to training in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, geology, environment, etc.
