Afternoon of March 10, at the Party Central Headquarters,General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trongchaired a key leadership meeting to assess the country's outstanding issues, the international situation in the first two months of 2022 and key tasks in the coming time.

Attending the event were President Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue; and Permanent member of the Secretariat Vo Van Thuong.

Also attending were Chief of the Party Central Office Le Minh Hung; Assistant, Head of the Office of the General Secretary Dao Duc Toan.

Some outstanding results in various fields

The report at the meeting showed that the Party Executive Committee, Party delegation, Party committees and authorities at all levels have thoroughly grasped and seriously implemented Directive No. 11-CT/TW of the Secretariat and Directive No. 35/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister on leading and directing the organization of the Year of the Tiger in accordance with local and unit realities, creating conditions for people to celebrate the New Year joyfully, healthily, safely and economically; strictly implementing regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control; at the same time promoting production, business activities, socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security.

Activities to celebrate Tet and Spring were organized with great attention, in conjunction with activities to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the Party's founding. Although some production and service activities and the atmosphere of Tet and Spring were somewhat affected by the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, overall this year's Tet holiday was peaceful, with people excited, sharing, and helping each other to celebrate a warm, peaceful, and happy Tet.

The work of preventing and fighting the epidemic and vaccinating against COVID-19 has been carried out vigorously. The permission to produce and circulate COVID-19 drugs produced in Vietnam has created an important source of medicine to treat people with the disease.

In the context of the number of new infections increasing rapidly after the Tet holiday, in February, the number of cases treated in hospitals decreased by 24.5%; the number of critical cases decreased by 43.1%; the number of deaths decreased by 47.1% compared to the previous month.

Localities have proactively and calmly responded promptly to the complicated developments of the epidemic, ensuring the operations of all levels and sectors are basically smooth.

The socio-economic situation continued to change positively; major balances were ensured; the monetary market was basically stable; budget revenue and public investment disbursement increased higher than the same period last year.

Industrial production has recovered in most localities. The number of international visitors, import and export activities, foreign investment capital, production and business situation of enterprises have many positive changes. Cultural and social fields have been focused on and strengthened.

The work of taking care of people's lives, ensuring a happy Tet and Spring for policy beneficiaries, and supporting people and workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic has been focused on and promoted.

Socio-economic development tasks such as preparing and implementing the Socio-economic Recovery and Development Program, focusing on removing institutional obstacles have been strongly directed. Some projects that have been delayed for a long time have been focused on removing difficulties, strongly implemented and initially achieved positive results.

Regarding the developments related to the armed conflict in Ukraine, key leaders and the Standing Committee of the Secretariat have given timely instructions, especially on the work of protecting citizens. The Prime Minister has established a special working group to handle issues related to the crisis situation in Ukraine. The first flights to evacuate Vietnamese people in Ukraine were deployed quickly and successfully.

Resolutely and effectively implement tasks

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that the achievements in recent times show that key leaders have united in directing, leading comprehensively, comprehensively, and coordinating quite smoothly and harmoniously in the fields of socio-economic development, COVID-19 prevention and control, national defense, security, foreign affairs, Party building and rectification and the political system, and the fight against corruption and negativity...

The work of Party building and rectification has been led and directed with a high spirit of self-criticism and criticism. The Politburo and the Secretariat have reviewed the collective and individual Politburo and Secretariat seriously, frankly, and receptively, drawing conclusions on the strengths, limitations, and shortcomings of each comrade. This will set an example for subordinates in the political system.

At the meeting, key leaders assessed that in the coming time, our country may continue to face many new difficulties and challenges, which may slow down the process of economic and social recovery and development due to unpredictable fluctuations in the world economic and political situation, especially the armed conflict in Ukraine; inflationary pressure, high prices of raw materials and oil prices have adverse impacts on the effectiveness of policies to support people and stabilize the macro economy; the epidemic situation is still complicated, especially when our country is gradually loosening tourism and international trade activities.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out: “The general spirit of work in March 2022 is that we must continue to closely monitor, grasp the situation, forecast accurately, have correct policies and be steadfast on issues of principle and fundamental nature, absolutely must not waver or waver, but at the same time must be very sensitive, respond, grasp issues quickly, resolve promptly, accurately and effectively”.

All levels and sectors focus on synchronously and effectively implementing measures to prevent and control the COVID-19 epidemic; prepare plans and resources to respond to the epidemic in all situations, not to be passive or surprised; further accelerate the organization of the third vaccination, have a plan to vaccinate the fourth vaccination (when necessary) for adults; prepare all conditions for safe vaccination for children from 5 to under 12 years old; ensure adequate medicine and strengthen direction, guidance and timely support for localities in treatment, not to overload the health system, especially the grassroots health sector; strengthen inspection and supervision of the business of goods serving the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic; promptly adjust, amend and guide the implementation of regulations on disease prevention and control in a flexible manner, suitable to reality.

Key leaders requested all levels and sectors to resolutely and effectively implement the tasks and solutions of the Socio-Economic Recovery and Development Program; ensure progress and quality; continue to focus on removing difficulties, obstacles, and bottlenecks in institutions and policies; proactively, flexibly and synchronously manage monetary policy tools, closely coordinate with fiscal policy and other macroeconomic policies to control inflation, stabilize the macro-economy, ensure major balances of the economy and contribute to promoting socio-economic recovery and development; speed up the implementation and disbursement of public investment plans, especially large, key national projects such as Long Thanh airport, the North-South expressway, routes connecting the Northern mountainous region, the Central Highlands with the Central region, expressways in the Southeast region, the Mekong Delta region, and belt routes in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Focus on promoting industrial production, especially large projects to create new production capacity.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong noted that long-standing issues, along with new ones, need to be focused on to resolve and handle them thoroughly, accurately, and effectively, but with great certainty.

Key leaders requested all levels and sectors to closely monitor the international and regional situation, promptly analyze and assess the impacts on the world economy, financial and monetary markets, and commodity supply chains, especially the price developments of fuel and strategic materials, to promptly respond in managing domestic production, balancing supply and demand, and having appropriate import and export policies; ensuring adequate supply of gasoline and oil, having flexible and appropriate price management solutions, including gasoline and oil products, to control inflation, stabilize the macro-economy, and not increase production and investment costs; having measures to remove difficulties in the circulation of goods through the northern border gates; well organizing the gradual reopening of tourism, entertainment, culture, arts, and sports sectors to ensure safety in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic; effectively implementing social security and social welfare policies.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong assigned the Government Party Committee to preside over and, together with relevant ministries and branches, regularly monitor the situation in Ukraine, advise and report to the Politburo, the Secretariat and key leaders to have focused, unified, synchronous and timely leadership and direction on issues related to Vietnam, especially in the fields of diplomacy, national defense, economy and political security, in accordance with Vietnam's interests to protect independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

In the immediate future, focus resources on ensuring the highest security and safety for the lives, property, and legitimate and legal interests of Vietnamese citizens and businesses in Ukraine and related places, effectively implementing citizen protection work and plans to bring Vietnamese people home.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized that the work of preventing and combating corruption continues to be promoted and has new developments, paying attention to fighting negativity and strengthening inspection.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong requested to continue to closely and resolutely direct the work of Party building and rectification, preventing and combating corruption and negativity, identifying complicated corruption and negativity cases and incidents that are of public concern; and promptly bring key cases to trial.

Authorities urgently inspect and investigate to strictly handle violations in the cases of "Violating bidding regulations causing serious consequences; giving and receiving bribes; taking advantage of positions and powers while performing official duties" at Viet A Technology Joint Stock Company, Hai Duong Province Center for Disease Control and related units and localities; the case of "Receiving bribes" to approve and grant licenses to companies to conduct flights to bring Vietnamese citizens from abroad back to the country for personal gain occurring at the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; investigate, clarify and strictly handle violations in land and securities auctions.../.
