Upon hearing that a serious earthquake had just occurred in Sichuan province, China, causing great loss of life and property and affecting the lives of many Chinese people, on April 20, 2013, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung sent messages of condolences to General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang, and the people of the affected area.
