(Baonghean.vn)- According to information from the White House, at 11:10 a.m. (10:10 p.m. Vietnam time) on July 7, a bilateral meeting took place in the Oval Office between General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong with US President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

According to the AP news agency, the US President and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had frank discussions on issues of mutual concern. President Obama said that despite certain differences between the US and Vietnam, the two countries are actively strengthening cooperation on health, climate and many other areas.

President Obama expressed his confidence that the two countries can continue to further improve their current good relationship and will consider the General Secretary's invitation to visit Vietnam.

After meeting at the White House, US Vice President Joe Biden hosted a reception for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Previously, the General Secretary visited the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, received US Trade Representative Michael Froman and attended the handover ceremony of the first Boeing 787-9 DreamLiner aircraft between Boeing Group and Vietnam Airlines.
