On the afternoon of September 16, at the Imperial Palace of Japan, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong met with Emperor Akihito.
On behalf of the Japanese Imperial Family, Emperor Akihito warmly welcomed General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam on their official visit to Japan. Emperor Akihito said that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's visit is of great significance in further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sincerely thanked the Emperor for taking the time to receive the delegation; expressed his joy to visit Japan again, to witness the outstanding efforts of the Japanese Government and people in restoring and rebuilding the country, continuing to make positive contributions to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Emperor Akihito expressed their delight at the rapid, substantive and positive development of Vietnam-Japan relations in recent years. Emperor Akihito affirmed that the Japanese Royal Family always strongly supports the development of relations between Vietnam and Japan, and hopes that the Vietnamese people will continue to achieve more achievements in building an increasingly prosperous country.
On behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong highly appreciated the close sentiments and attention that the Emperor and Royal Family of Japan have shown to Vietnam and the Vietnam-Japan friendship and cooperation.
The General Secretary said that Vietnam and Japan have a long-standing relationship, are culturally close, and share many common values and interests; he affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always consistently consider Japan a leading and long-term important partner in its foreign policy.
Emperor Akihito said that members of the Royal Family, such as Crown Prince Naruhito, Prince Akishino and the Princess, have visited Vietnam and have very good impressions of the country and people of Vietnam.
On behalf of the Vietnamese leaders and people, the General Secretary respectfully invited the Emperor, Empress and members of the Royal Family to pay an official visit to Vietnam. Emperor Akihito sincerely thanked General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for the invitation./.
