General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: Remembering comrade Nguyen Van Linh, we remember the image of a steadfast and creative leader.

On the morning of June 30, at the Hung Yen Provincial Conference Center, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Prime Minister, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hung Yen Province solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the 100th birthday of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh (July 1, 1915 - July 1, 2015).

Attending the ceremony were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; former General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh; President Truong Tan Sang; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An and many leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Also attending the ceremony were Comrade Ngo Thi Hue, wife of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh and relatives of Comrade Nguyen Van Linh; people from all walks of life in Hung Yen province - General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh's hometown. Former General Secretary Do Muoi sent a flower basket to the ceremony.

Before the ceremony, the delegation of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Prime Minister, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Hung Yen province and the family of comrade Nguyen Van Linh led by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong came to lay flowers at the statue of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh located at Nguyen Van Linh Square.

Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Hung Yen province observed a minute of silence in memory of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh, one of President Ho Chi Minh's outstanding students, a staunch communist soldier, a highly prestigious leader of the Party, State and people, and a trusted friend of international friends.

Delegation commemorates General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh

Reading a speech at the ceremony, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong reviewed the life, career, merits and contributions of comrade Nguyen Van Linh to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.

Comrade Nguyen Van Linh, real name Nguyen Van Cuc, was born on July 1, 1915, in Giai Pham commune, My Van district (now Yen My district), Hung Yen province.

Born into a patriotic family, he was enlightened about the revolution early, participated in revolutionary activities in Hanoi and Hai Phong, and was exiled to Con Dao twice by the enemy. After the success of the August Revolution in 1945, he was welcomed back from Con Dao by the Party and the State. He continued to lead the resistance of the Southern people and was closely associated with the Southern people throughout the two long and arduous resistance wars until the complete victory in the spring of 1975.

After the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, he held many important positions. At the 6th National Congress of the Party (1986), he was elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party. At the 7th and 8th Congresses of the Party, he was appointed Advisor to the Central Committee of the Party. He was a delegate to the 8th National Assembly.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's revolutionary career was rich and glorious. Nearly 70 years of working in many regions, localities, and fields, spread across all three regions of the country and being entrusted by the Party with many important responsibilities, wherever he was, whatever he did, in whatever leadership position, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh was always devoted to the Party and the people, steadfast in the face of all difficulties and challenges, steadfast in the ideal of national independence and socialism; excellently completing his tasks and making great contributions to the Party and the revolution.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong pointed out three highlights in the revolutionary activities of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh, including the fact that comrade Nguyen Van Linh, together with the Central Committee, made great and important contributions to the cause of national renewal.

Since his tenure as Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh has grasped the reality and summarized the experiences of a number of establishments with creative approaches to propose to the Central Committee many new policies in developing production and business. When he held the important position of the first General Secretary of the renovation period, he and the Politburo and the Party Central Committee have proposed a correct and creative renovation policy, suitable to the reality of Vietnam, on that basis, he led and directed sensitively, proactively, and skillfully, steering the revolutionary boat to overcome difficulties and sometimes dangers, carrying out the renovation process and achieving very important initial results, carrying out two strategic tasks of building and defending the Fatherland, developing the socio-economy, consolidating national defense and security, and gradually improving people's lives.

Through this, we have built up the people's trust in the cause of innovation, in the Party, and in the socialist regime. At the same time, we have prepared the theoretical and practical basis for our Party to outline the Platform for national construction in the transitional period to socialism in 1991.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: Remembering Comrade Nguyen Van Linh, we remember the image of a steadfast and creative leader; steadfast in stance and principles, while always struggling to explore and be creative in the face of new developments in practice. He said that in order to successfully carry out the cause of innovation, the Party must look straight at the truth, must have a strong spirit of courageous self-criticism, grasp objective laws, and apply them appropriately to the country's conditions; must oppose empiricism, subjective, conservative, and dogmatic thinking. It is necessary to combine words with actions, have high revolutionary enthusiasm unified with solid scientific knowledge, go deep into practice, take practical effectiveness as the goal, and know how to solve problems on the basis of promoting the mastery and initiative of the masses. The Party must set out correct strategic guidelines and policies, meeting the requirements of the revolution in each period to guide society forward.

At the same time, it is necessary to do well the ideological work, the organizational work, the inspection and supervision of the implementation of those policies and guidelines; focus on the training and fostering of cadres, and prepare well for the transition of the leadership generation. Strengthen the relationship between the Party and the people, take care to maintain solidarity and unity within the Party, seriously implement the principles of Party organization and activities, and fight against individualism.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong recalled a series of articles by comrade Nguyen Van Linh in the column "Things to do immediately", published in Nhan Dan newspaper, signed NVL, which created a new vitality in society: Democracy, openness, speaking frankly, telling the truth, words going hand in hand with actions, fighting against negativity, cleaning up the apparatus of Party and State agencies.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong stated: Comrade Nguyen Van Linh is an exemplary model of communist qualities and ethics. Throughout his life, Comrade Nguyen Van Linh devoted himself to caring for the people's lives, staying close to the people, understanding the people, trusting the people, grasping their thoughts and aspirations, knowing how to filter the people's wisdom to contribute to the Party; daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility before the Party and the people. With a sincere, open attitude, a modest, affectionate, respectful manner, and listening to the opinions of other comrades, even if those opinions were contrary to his own, he was trusted and respected by his comrades and compatriots.

Highlighting the great and historic achievements that our country has achieved over nearly 30 years of implementing the renovation cause, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed: Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Comrade Nguyen Van Linh's birth, reviewing his life and career, his merits, qualities and revolutionary ethics, we are even more respectful, proud, express our deep gratitude to him and vow to forever follow the path that Uncle Ho and our Party have outlined.

At the Commemoration Ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Van Thong, Secretary of the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee and representatives of the young generation spoke to affirm their pride and gratitude to Comrade Nguyen Van Linh, a son of Hung Yen, and expressed their determination to build the province to become increasingly rich, civilized, and worthy of being a cultural and revolutionary homeland as desired by General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh./.
